About This Game

INTERNAL MEMORANDUM FROM THE CEO

FROM: Executive Leadership

TO: All Staff

SUBJECT: Difficult but Necessary Strategic Realignment

SENT: Friday, 4:58 PM

Following our third consecutive quarter of record profits, we are making the tough decision to part ways with 400 of our colleagues to protect this year's bonus pool.

We are a family. A resilient community of passionate creators who will no longer be allowed on the premises. Slack access is turned off, your email credentials have expired, and your severance check is strictly contingent on signing a 40-page NDA promising you never worked here.

Thanks for the yacht lol,

Your CEO

THE PREMISE

Save the Game Devs is a satirical incremental clicker about the absurd reality of the modern video game industry.

The job is straightforward: click to drain the CEO's bonus package to zero, catch laid-off developers when the cuts hit, and help them start independent studios so they can make their own games.

HOW IT WORKS

Drain the CEO

Every tap pulls cash out of the sitting CEO's bonus package. When the pool hits zero, the board promotes him out of the building and replaces him with a fresh suit who has an even bigger package.

Weather the Layoffs

Layoff waves hit on schedule. Use the 3-card draft to pull programmers, artists, QA testers, designers, producers, and marketers off the street and onto your coworking floor.

Ship Games

Rescued devs form their own micro-studios and ship weird passion projects like Sentient Raccoon Tycoon or Feral Grandma Roguelike. Some flop, some become cult classics, and some go viral.

Buy Dev Benefits

Take the money you drained and buy the things management said were not in the budget:

  • Solidarity (Does not pay the rent. Means something anyway)

  • Decent Coffee (Not the brown water in the break room)

  • Ergonomic Chairs (His cost $4,000. Yours squeaked)

  • Actual Healthcare (His golf caddy had better coverage than you)

  • No-Crunch Policy (Ship dates move. People do not)

  • Pensions and Worker Ownership (No parent company. No parent company's parent company)

Prestige: Start at a New Company

When a publisher has nothing left to siphon, take your catalog to the next building. Cash in your shipped games for permanent perks across a branching Prestige Tree to break the next corporation even faster.

WHAT IS IN THE GAME

  • Endless procedurally generated CEOs with names like Thurston Sterling III and Chip Blackwood Jr.

  • Six dev disciplines to balance on the office floor

  • 130+ real-time ticker headlines about RTO mandates, AI pivots, and pre-screened all-hands meetings

  • Clickable bugs that trigger viral marketing frenzies

  • 100+ permanent Prestige upgrades that survive company resets

  • Zero ads, zero microtransactions, and zero season passes

The 50% PLEDGE

We give 50% of net revenue (what is left after Steam's cut) directly to organizations and causes that support game developers.

Donations are made monthly and reports will be shared in-game and through marketing announcements.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We are a two-person indie team with over a decade of real-world game development experience. Pat has been making games for 10 years, and Nate was a professional working artist long before generative AI tools existed.

We know AI in games is a dealbreaker for some folks, and we struggle with how much to use it ourselves. We want to be completely upfront about how we built this so you have the full picture:

- Visuals: We used generative AI alongside our standard software to speed up ideation and automate tedious tasks. Every final in-game element is as handmade as any other pre-LLM digital art. Most of the icons were licensed from a third-party.

- Code: We used AI assistants for pair-programming and troubleshooting complex engine logic on a project that two non-engineers couldn't otherwise build alone.

No content is generated live in-game at runtime.

We believe in total transparency with our players. We built this game to celebrate developers, and we want to be completely open about how we made it. As busy parents navigating the job hunt during development, these tools gave us the leverage to build and ship an ambitious project that we simply couldn't have created otherwise.
