What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“SAMBIRD is my first game, and I develop it alone.

The foundations are playable end to end, but the game isn't finished: I want to keep adding content, and to decide with players what comes next. I also need perspective on balancing, so I can offer a difficulty that suits every kind of player.

I'm open to adding ideas and new mechanics based on player feedback. I hope Early Access will let me grow this game that means a lot to me.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm aiming for 2 to 4 months, without being able to commit firmly. The length will depend on the volume of feedback and on the time needed to answer it properly rather than quickly.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Version 1.0 will be significantly richer than the Early Access build, across everything that makes a roguelite worth replaying: more ways to build your team, more things to run into, more reasons to start another run.

I plan to expand what already exists and to add new material, without locking down the list or the order today. Your feedback will decide what matters most: which ways of playing you feel are missing, what you'd like to come across, what would make you want to go one more run.

Mechanics you suggest will be considered, and added when they fit the game.
Balancing will be revisited continuously throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Two worlds are playable end to end: that's the foundation of the game.

What's already in:

two complete worlds, with their monsters, elites and bosses
eight playable classes, unlocked progressively from run to run
50 unique skills
a turn-based combat system built on a slot machine: symbols, upgrades, combos, skill checks
over eighty relics and curses
a map generated for every run, with narrative events, trapped chests, blackjack and companion recruitment
interface and text fully translated into French, English and Spanish”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase when version 1.0 releases, but only if the difference between the two versions is significant.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“You'll find the game's Discord on the home page: feel free to send me your ideas, your playtest feedback and your impressions!”

About This Game

Your skills aren't picked from a menu — they land on a slot machine. Build your party from 8 classes: every choice shapes the skills you'll have on your run.

But nothing comes free. You start alone. Choose your path carefully to recruit the right companions and avoid the deadliest enemies.

  • Parry enemy attacks on time, or take the hit! Every strike has its window, and it doesn't forgive. Parry a full combo, and the enemy is the one who regrets it.

  • Your skills aren't cast — they're spun. Every turn, the slot machine decides what your heroes do: damage, healing, magic, buffs and debuffs. 50 unique skills to unlock by beating challenges throughout your adventures.

  • Not every skill plays out the same way. Some open a minigame : aim, hold, keep the rhythm. Land it and the hit hurts - a lot more.

  • Every run carves its own path. Fights, treasure, encounters: you decide where to go. And sometimes, someone agrees to follow you.

  • Some enemies don't target one hero — they target your whole party. One window to protect everyone. Nobody makes it out alone.

Bonne chance !
