About This Game

WELCOME TO THE NIGHT SHIFT

This is Sato, your shift manager. Tonight you run the register at a Tokyo konbini: orders stack up on the counter, each one wanting a specific snack in an exact quantity. Serve fast enough and the night is yours. Fumble it and Sato will let you know.

Konbini Shift is a cute, brutal arcade puzzler about the worst shift of your life, repeated until you get good at it.

THAT'S THE WHOLE JOB

Every order names one item and an exact number. Find that run on the shelf, drag along it, let go. Across serves a row, down serves a column, and picking the wrong one is how everybody's first shift goes.

THE FLOOR NEVER STOPS MOVING

The shelf drifts on a timer, shoving your carefully lined-up stock out from under you. Miss a drag and the miss meter lights a notch. Fill that meter and your point card wipes clean next shift. Leave one notch dark and you keep your stamps, but the bar shrinks, so every clean shift is tighter than the last.

A gold VIP card pays double and has no patience. Let their bar empty and they turn into a PANIC order, and suddenly the whole floor is on the clock.

Fight back with the stamps on your point card: discard a tile, shrink an order, boost another, reshuffle the whole rail.

CLEAR THE GOAL, RESTOCK THE FLOOR

Sato sets a goal every shift: a sales target, a speed run, a combo streak. Clear it and the stockroom opens. Swap one new snack onto the floor, retire one that isn't earning, and the shelf becomes yours over a run, one decision at a time. Your night's takings buy their way deeper into the break room's upgrade tree.

Miss the goal and you get nothing. No reward for half a job.

BANK IT OR PUSH IT

Survive the shift and you choose: GO HOME and bank your yen, or clock into OVERTIME, where the clocks tighten, the goals climb and the payout grows. Push too far and you lose the lot.

Every run ends with a receipt: what you sold, what you spent, what you took home. Beat your best night. Then try to beat it again.

FEATURES

• Drag to serve - line up an exact order and pull it off the shelf. The direction you drag picks the line.
  
• Two clocks - a drifting shelf and a panic timer that ends the run.
  
• Shape your shelf - clear the nightly goal to swap stock in and retire what's dead weight.
  
• Push your luck - bank a safe run or gamble it on OVERTIME for a bigger haul.
  
• A manager with opinions - Sato narrates your shift. If his honesty stings, switch him to TEPID in the settings and he'll be nice about it.
  
• Chase the record - best night, best combo, best time. All of them beatable.
