“As a sandbox game, Planet Nomads is the perfect title for emergent development. We have been working closely with our Alpha Nomads for seven months to bring Planet Nomads to its first Early Access version. (And close to two years on the game's building system.) Now's the time to invite the perspective of a broader audience to help shape the game.

Furthermore, as an indie developer and a team of thirteen, we can put the continuous funding to good use and get more hands on the deck and execute our grand vision for Planet Nomads faster and in full.”

“Hard to make such a long-term prediction at this point, but generally speaking we want to stay in Early Access for a year or two.

While we aim to develop a complete simulator of a stranded astronaut scientist who manages to build a spaceship to get back to space to cruise the stars and star systems, possibly managing to find a way home, we don't want to wore out our passion for this project. Four years of pouring our hearts and souls into Planet Nomads sounds about right.”

“Significantly! We're still in the first half of this journey. The game already offers a solid gameplay for several hours minimum (tens of hours if you are into the sandbox genre and hundreds if you are really passionate about creating things), but we aim higher than that.

We'll want to expand modding, introduce space flight and orbital building. Make the weather more realistic and tied to survival, develop water that pours over the land, introduce more environment hazards, more creatures and more building options.

If you give us the chance, we won't let it go in vain.

The features we want to focus on first:
  • Greatly improved creature AI and behavior (Done)
  • More reliable physics for 10+ wheeled vehicles and mobile fortresses (Done)
  • Introduction of flying machines (Done)
  • Traveling between planets
  • Emerging storyline
  • More planet types with different biomes

“We are procedurally generating actual planets with multiple biomes spreading from pole to pole. The system is ready for seamless interplanetary travel. There's water and there are underwater biomes.

There's a block-based building system in place complete with physics, stunning wheel physics and functional blocks that provide plenty of creative opportunities.

We have Survival and Creative Modes ready in the game.

The Survival Mode
  • Upgradeable particle-manipulating multi-tool
  • Upgradeable suit, jetpack and inventory space
  • Half-hundred different types of alien animals to keep you busy (and endangered)
  • Player characteristics to take care of: health, food, hydration and stamina

“The general idea is to gradually raise the price as the game grows with features and content, until full release. Everything depends on how well the game is received and what the players are saying.”

“There are two main aspects of the Early Access we want to take full advantage off.

First of all, while we're devoting a lot of our resources to the game's design and "ease of use", we've been proven time and time again by our Alpha Nomads and existing players that when you are too close to something for too long, you do suffer from a certain blindness to it. Therefore, we depend on our players to open our eyes.

Secondly, as a small team we need to prioritize a lot, carefully weighing which features are more important than others. We have our assumptions, but it's way better to hear it directly from the community what should be improved and added next.”

0.9.7.3 In Experimental Branch

Hello Nomads,

This is (I hope) the last experimental release before pushing 0.9.7 to the public.

We have temporarily reduced the difficulty of survival in bad weather and cold and hot biomes. We realized from your feedback that it is hard to be there without proper tools, that we do not have ready for you yet.

In the near future you will enjoy the thermometer, heating/cooling block and some further changes of temperature with day/night, in water etc.

Here is the usual list of changes:
  • reduced the impact of weather to hot/cold survival attributes
  • linux: built Sandy Engine against older libraries to support not so recent distributions

0.9.7.2 In Experimental Branch

Hello Nomads,

The third iteration of the new release is in Experimental branch, finally bringing earlier mentioned new weather types.

There are also new Suit designs differentiated according to armor tier. We have also added a Kickstarter-exclusive suit design for our backers, and will send them info how to use it once it will be finally released to the public.

We are still working on balancing the temperature influence on survival, changing temperature with day and night and will add a Thermometer to the UI soon.

Here is the complete list of changes:
  • finished new weather types
  • different Suit appearance for each armor tier
  • modified Suit survival attributes
  • special Kickstarter-exclusive Suit for our Unique Nomad backers

第21天

一切变得好了起来。种下的植物已经开始生长,我也造了一辆漫游者工具车来协助自己收集附近的矿石。这儿很漂亮,但我可不想一辈子都呆在这里。现在我正在修建一辆更大的工具车,在发生器、3D打印机和停滞舱的帮助下我能够实现很多精妙的设计。我开始想要看看地平线那一边会有些什么东西了。或许我能找到回家的路,或者那里有其他和我一样的幸存者。

第26天

今天的事情真是突如其来。盔甲大猩猩们来到了我这里,可能是不喜欢我的挖矿机器吧。我觉得我应该躲在基地里然后借机行事,但这些野兽们开始投掷巨石,巨大的响声令人感到害怕。我发动了一辆挖矿机器让它引开猩猩们的注意。幸运地是在这一天我也成功地测试了基地的移动能力,一切都准备好了。我无法回头,因为我是一名流浪者。
