What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Dreadlight is built around combinations, risk, and replayability. Early Access gives us room to tune the difficulty curve, improve build variety, and expand the game alongside the people putting its systems under real pressure.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Dreadlight to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months. That estimate may change as the game develops and player feedback shapes the work needed for 1.0.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to deepen the scar system, add more survivors, weapons, relics, enemies, bosses, and arena events, and continue improving balance, performance, audio, accessibility, and presentation. The exact scope will evolve with testing and community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes complete 15-wave runs, 18 survivors, 36 weapons, 174 relics, 11 Curse levels, bosses, the Black Market, controller support, and the persistent ritual-scar system. Balance and progression will continue to evolve throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We expect the price to increase when Dreadlight leaves Early Access to reflect the expanded content and polish of the 1.0 release. Any pricing changes will be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam discussions, playtest feedback, and run telemetry shared voluntarily by players to prioritize balance, performance, clarity, and new content. Updates will include notes explaining what changed and which player feedback informed it.”

About This Game

Hold Back the Dark

Your lantern is safety, visibility, and power. Step beyond its glow to reach valuable scrap, but stay in the dark too long and Dread begins to climb. As Dread rises, the arena becomes more dangerous and every decision gets sharper.

Build a Monstrous Arsenal

Equip up to six weapons and combine their strengths into a build that can survive the horde. Orbiting blades, traps, projectiles, close-range tools, and cursed effects create wildly different ways to fight.

The Arena Remembers

High Dread tears open ritual scars in the floor. These living wounds persist between waves, grow more dangerous when ignored, and weaken anyone who crosses them. Spend precious scrap to seal the scars you fear most, or keep your resources and fight through a battlefield of your own making.

Make Every Wave Count

Collect scrap, visit the Black Market, combine weapons, buy relics, and prepare for escalating horrors. Survive all 15 waves and kill the final boss, or let the dark claim another run.

Current Early Access Scope

  • 18 survivors with distinct starting identities
  • 36 weapons across multiple attack styles
  • 174 relics for build-defining combinations
  • 11 escalating Curse levels
  • A 15-wave run with bosses and persistent ritual scars
  • Keyboard, mouse, and controller play

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Dreadlight uses pre-generated, AI-assisted content. Generative AI tools were used during development to create and refine many of the game's cel-shaded 2D illustrations, including characters, enemies, items, environments, interface artwork, icons, textures, and promotional images. Suno was used to generate four music and ambience tracks, and AI assistance was used for portions of the in-game writing. Every generated element was reviewed, selected, edited where needed, and integrated by the developer. Nothing is generated during gameplay: the game does not accept player prompts or communicate with generative AI services while running.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Dreadlight contains frequent stylized fantasy violence and graphic body-horror imagery. Combat depicts weapons, brief red blood-like impact bursts, enemy deaths, grotesque creatures, exposed flesh and teeth, bones and skeletons, and organic wounds called ritual scars. Some relic names and illustrations depict mutilated or heavily wounded body parts and suggest ritual bloodletting or self-inflicted wounds. Its setting includes dark occult imagery and themes of dread, curses, and anguish. It contains no nudity or sexual content, sexual violence, suicide, drug or alcohol abuse, or violence targeting real-world vulnerable groups.
