UNDERSTAR is an atmospheric 2D mining adventure built around one promise: Dig. Upgrade. Survive. Go deeper.

Beneath a weathered surface settlement lies a persistent world of destructible stone, valuable resources, hidden caves, sealed geodes, lost stars, ancient Titans, and forgotten machinery waiting to wake. Choose your route, decide how long to push your luck, then return to the light with everything you need to make the next descent stronger.

CARVE A MINE THAT REMEMBERS

Dig up, down, or sideways through destructible terrain. Your excavated routes persist, so every shaft, shortcut, discovery, and mistake becomes a permanent part of your world.

Create direct routes to valuable depth bands, connect distant caverns, or follow a promising material seam far from safety. Read the rock, keep your mining combo alive, and make every swing count. Over time, the underground becomes a record of your entire journey.

EXPLORE EVERY BIOME

The world changes as you descend. Explore distinct underground biomes with their own geology, atmosphere, lighting, resources, cave formations, landmarks, and buried secrets.

Push beyond familiar stone into increasingly strange and dangerous regions. Every biome introduces new discoveries and new reasons to leave the safety of your established routes. Reaching a new layer is not just progress—it is the beginning of another mystery.

TURN DISCOVERY INTO POWER

Crack open sealed geodes, enter expansive cave levels, recover rare materials, collect lost stars, and uncover colossal Titans hidden throughout the depths.

Discoveries are more than collectibles. Stars contribute to constellations, unlock Starlight talents, and provide lasting improvements to your mining, movement, abilities, and survival. Titan encounters reveal fragments of a much older world while expanding your archive and surface collection.

GROW YOUR CHARACTER

Mining, exploration, and discovery make your character stronger. Gain experience, choose new upgrades, improve your equipment, and decide which abilities should develop first.

Increase your mining strength, expand your survivability, improve your mobility, and make better use of your limited power. Build toward efficient resource gathering, aggressive digging abilities, safer exploration, or the raw strength needed to reach the deepest layers.

Every upgrade changes what you can attempt—and how long you can remain underground before returning home.

MASTER FLIGHT AND MINING ABILITIES

Flight transforms vertical caverns into open routes. Cross deep gaps, climb excavated shafts, reach isolated passages, and escape collapsing ground using a limited reserve of power.

Combine Flight with abilities such as Quick Slash and Thunder Strike to cut through stubborn terrain, reach difficult discoveries, and survive when the mine turns against you. As your character grows, familiar obstacles become opportunities to carve faster and travel farther.

BUILD THE ARC CORE

Begin with a pickaxe and eventually forge the Arc Core: a controllable mining machine built to tear through terrain on an entirely different scale.

Develop it from a compact 2×2 rig into the colossal 8×8 Omega form. Its growing footprint and power open routes ordinary tools cannot, transforming both the way you mine and the scale of the world you can challenge.

SURVIVE A WORLD IN MOTION

Darkness matters. Your torch, available light, and remaining power determine how far you can safely push before the journey back becomes dangerous.

Day and night continue above the surface while rain, storms, earthquakes, cave-ins, shifting debris, and dangerous depth put pressure on every expedition. A familiar tunnel can become an escape route, while an earthquake may expose a passage you never knew existed.

Preparation matters—but so does knowing when to turn back.

CHOOSE HOW MUCH YOU ARE WILLING TO RISK

The standard experience preserves your mine, discoveries, and character progression between expeditions.

For players who want every decision to carry greater weight, optional Hardcore Mode introduces permanent death and puts the entire save on the line. Every additional metre becomes a gamble: continue into the unknown or return to the surface while you still can.

Permadeath is completely optional, but for those who choose it, the mine remembers more than success.

RETURN STRONGER

Sell resources at the settlement, improve your equipment, choose new abilities, prepare at the campfire, and speak with merchants before heading underground again.

Each expedition deepens one persistent mine. Each discovery expands what your character can become. Each biome brings you closer to the machinery, Titans, mysteries, and stars waiting at the bottom of the world.
