A realistic first-person survival game about real bushcraft. Spin fire from a hand drill, fell and split trees, whittle sticks to make your own arrows, hunt with a bow and build your camp while hunger, cold and storms wear you down. The woods provide. Then they come to collect.

About This Game

codru (Romanian, n.) — a deep, old forest.

You arrive from mainland with only what you could afford. Everything else, the forest offers you: fire from a spinning stick, shelter from the trees you fell, food from what you hunt. CODRU is a realistic first-person survival game about real bushcraft — slow, demanding and quietly beautiful.

The woods provide. Explore

Before the forest, the shop. The money is short and the list is long: an axe, a knife, a backpack, a lighter… Every item you can't afford is one you'll have to make yourself.

Didn't bring a lighter? Spin a hand drill until the wood smokes, catch the ember in a nest of dry grass and breathe it into a flame. Then keep it alive — a heavy rain will drown it.

Every swing bites where you aim it. Chips fly, the notch grows, and the trunk comes down for real. Split it into logs and firewood — the forest is your lumberyard.

Whittle a branch down, shaving by shaving. The knife cuts exactly where you carve. You need arrows after all, right?

Lash a tripod over the fire, stretch a tarp to catch the rain, or stack log after log into walls. Freestyle building lets you place every piece by hand. If freestyle is overwhelming, blueprints are also available. Or simply combine both

Draw your bow on a rabbit, wolf or other forrest critter. Skin the catch with your knife and cook it in a pot over a fire you made yourself. Just remember you're not the only hunter out here.

Hunger, thirst, fatigue and cold wear you down, day after day. Storms roll in fast — lightning tears the sky open, and the rain goes for your fire first. In addition there is also a fear mechanic (no spoilers).

Find your way with a real compass (if you brought one), and keep what you learn in a handwritten notebook — recipes, objectives, and everything the forest teaches you.

  • Real bushcraft — friction fire, whittling, rope and hand-crafted tools

  • Tree felling with real physics — chop, fell and split

  • Bow hunting — track, shoot, skin and cook

  • Freestyle and blueprint building — from a fire tripod to log cabin. With freestyle mode, sky's the limit on what can be built

  • Survival needs — hunger, thirst, fatigue, fear and body warmth

  • Dynamic weather — rain, storms and lightning; rain puts out your fire

  • Day and night cycle — the forest changes after dark

  • A big open forest to explore on foot

  • Gear up before you go — buy your starting kit on a tight budget

Some nights the forest goes quiet. Not the good kind of quiet.
