What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Kaerun is built around exploration, observation, and puzzle solving. Early Access allows us to test whether clues communicate clearly without removing the satisfaction of discovery. Player feedback will help us improve puzzle readability, navigation, performance, accessibility, and localization while we complete the Asterveen experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Kaerun to remain in Early Access for approximately 18 to 24 months.

This is an estimate rather than a fixed deadline. Development will continue based on player feedback, testing, performance work, and the time required to build and polish the remaining areas, Stone Chambers, puzzles, discoveries, and supporting systems.

Our priority is to make each new part of the world feel complete and worth exploring rather than rushing toward a specific release date.
”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to provide a complete and polished Asterveen journey, with its connected Stone Chambers, research progression, optional discoveries, localization, accessibility options, and final presentation. The wider world of Veyrland may be expanded after the Asterveen release, but those later regions are not part of the initial Early Access promise unless explicitly added to the roadmap.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Kaerun is already playable as a 3D exploration and puzzle adventure, but it is still actively being expanded and refined.

The current version includes the opening part of Asterveen, the Asterveen Field Institute, explorable outdoor environments, archaeological discoveries, the Journal and Field Guide systems, an inventory system, save/load functionality, multiple languages, environmental storytelling, and the first Stone Chamber puzzle locations.

Players can explore the world on foot, investigate archaeological evidence, interact with discoveries, record findings in their Journal, solve environmental and Stone Chamber puzzles, and gradually learn more about the history of Veyrland.

The Early Access version will initially focus on Asterveen. Additional Stone Chambers, discoveries, puzzles, environmental details, wildlife, audio, story elements, quality-of-life improvements, and further areas will be added and refined throughout development.

Some parts of the wider world will remain inaccessible or intentionally obscured while they are still under development. Players should expect an evolving experience rather than the amount of content planned for the finished game.

Core systems are functional, but balancing, optimization, visual polish, audio, accessibility, localization, puzzle clarity, and general quality-of-life improvements will continue throughout Early Access.
”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We expect the price to increase when Kaerun leaves Early Access, reflecting the additional content and polish in the completed Asterveen experience. Any change will be communicated in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam discussions, playtests, surveys, and development updates to collect feedback. We are especially interested in puzzle clarity, exploration flow, accessibility, localization quality, performance, and the balance between guidance and independent discovery. Feedback will inform development, but we will preserve Kaerun's core identity and narrative direction.”

About This Game

Every stone is evidence

Kaerun is a first-person exploration puzzle adventure set in Veyrland, a land shaped by ancient monuments and the mysteries buried around them. As a young archaeologist stationed at the Asterveen Field Institute, you investigate Stone Chambers, document what you find, and uncover connections that have been forgotten for generations.

The answers are not handed to you. They are hidden in the landscape, in the arrangement of stones, in weathered symbols, and in discoveries that only make sense when viewed together.

Explore the Asterveen Lowlands

Travel between the Asterveen Field Institute and ancient sites across a continuous landscape of forest, heathland, water, and archaeological traces. Leave the main route to find optional discoveries, environmental details, and fragments of Veyrland's past.

Investigate the Stone Chambers

Each Stone Chamber is a place to study rather than simply enter. Observe its construction, search its surroundings, interpret runes, and combine clues to understand what happened there. Progress comes from careful investigation and from recognizing patterns across the world.

Return with new questions

The Asterveen Field Institute is your research hub and a gateway into the wider mystery. Its museum, archive, survey spaces, and Living Map place every discovery within the larger history of Veyrland.
