Tropical Company is a psychological mystery narrative puzzle RPG set in an original world, with the atmosphere of a dark fairy tale.

A story about blackouts, radio broadcasts, ghosts, dreams, cortisol—and two people trapped inside the system.

Your name is Kretsch. 33 years old. You’re a good young man.

Last month, you finally qualified to travel to Tabula, the federal capital, and sit the Federal Administrative Officer Examination.

You had barely settled into your government-assigned apartment when a sudden citywide blackout locked you inside the cramped room.

In the darkness—

  • The dreamcatcher your mother gave you whispers:

“I love you, kid. Don’t be anxious. Leave the nightmares to me. The road is yours~”

  • The electric guitar you once smashed to pieces says:

“Bro, how the hell did you end up like this?”

  • Your Temporary Capital Residence Permit informs you:

“In Tabula, you have a shelf life of seven days.”

Find a way out!

Or… maybe reply to the Bluetooth message from the mysterious person next door first?

【What Will You Do?】

Explore your room and the city, and awaken more talking objects. Each has its own personality, memories, and point of view—and each may lead you toward a different ending.

As you investigate the truth behind the Federation, you’ll also need to manage your constantly fluctuating cortisol, dopamine, and adrenaline levels. Every conversation may change your relationships with other characters—and ultimately, how the story ends.

【World】

Tropical Company is set in Tabula, the capital of the Ka’asus Federation on the continent of Suwulan. It is an imagined metropolis shaped by mythic prophecy, displaced peoples, the Industrial Revolution, theocratic politics, multinational capital, and AI governance. For thousands of years, the continent’s civilizations have remained divided by the golden–blue conflict surrounding the “Copper Ram of Truth.” Different peoples, carrying memories of war, colonization, and exile, have been forced to live together within the same city.

After the Great Reset, an AI governance system was established to preserve a fragile appearance of stability. But the ghosts of Tropical Company—and the unresolved historical wounds within its civilizations—continue to tear the city apart from deep within.

【Gameplay】

  • The Nine Souls System

Nine talking objects form a provisional cabinet inside the protagonist’s mind. Each represents a different facet of his psyche. They support and restrain one another—and compete for control over what you say next.

The Nine Souls System is structured around the generative and destructive relationships of Yin and Yang and the Five Phases. It also interacts with psychological variables such as dopamine, serotonin, and cortisol, affecting your chances of passing different checks.

Choosing which object speaks will change NPC reactions, reveal hidden clues, reshape relationships, and open different branches of the story.

Unlocking the Nine Souls, learning to understand them, and building relationships with them is also the process through which the protagonist’s fragmented personality is pieced back together—and his dormant life experiences begin to awaken.

  • Puzzle Mechanics

After obtaining special items, you can project your point of view into non-human entities such as birds, fish, balloons, toy cars, and machines.

Each entity has its own visual effects, field of view, physical scale, movement style, and unique clues. By switching between these non-human perspectives, you can bypass blockades, explore blind spots, and uncover hidden information.

  • Exploring the Piano City Diorama

Inside the automatic piano beyond the apartment door lies a miniature city of the dead, assembled from rubbish and discarded household objects.

As you explore its streets, you will discover objects and traces left behind by different eras, along with ghosts carrying memories from across history. You may gather clues from the city’s residents, help them, befriend them—or even help them finally find release.

  • Device Interaction

Type through a simulated phone interface, investigate archives on a computer, and experience stylized first-person views through the eyes of animals. Switch between different media and bodies to uncover information that can only be perceived from a particular perspective.
