About This Game

Legacy: The Card Game brings new, one-of-a-kind gameplay to TCGs. In Legacy, players command Legends to battle enemies in a unique open field style of play to gain Legacy points. Your cards do not battle your opponent's cards; instead, both you and your opponent play Foes that your Legends can defeat to increase your Legacy. Each Legend can attack any of the Foes on the field, which means both the Foes you and your opponent played. Defeating Foes grants Legacy, augments, and loot. The game continues until at least one Legend dies. If both Legends are alive when all Foes in both decks have been defeated, the game is decided by Single Combat, a rare battle to the death between the two Legends to determine who is greater.

Throughout the game you will play and attack Foes that help your Legend gain an advantage, attack cards your opponent has played to disrupt their strategy, earn ability cards and buffs to empower your Legend, and complete Side Quests for effects that range from game-changing to game-breaking. Your goal is to build a deck filled with Foes, Allies, and Side Quests that help you achieve greater Legacy than your opponent.

The Open Field

Every card you or your opponent play is a target for BOTH of you. Fill the field with Foes that are ideal for you and a nightmare for your opponent. Attack and defeat Foes that your opponent has played to impact their gameplan... and watch them do the same to you.

Impetus

Impetus is the resource in Legacy: The Card Game.

Each Legend gains 1 Impetus per turn, but they also gain 1 Impetus for each Foe their player adds to the field. Impetus is needed to attack targets in Wild or Enemy Territory, complete Side Quests, play Allies, and use most ability cards. In order to gain the Impetus you need to win the game, you will have to play many Foes.

Cards

Decks are built with 4 main types of cards:

  • Legends - The centerpiece of your deck. The protagonist, if you will. Generally has unique abilities, high stats, or both. Can attack targets, complete Side Quests, and use abilities.  Your Legend starts on the field and remains there, it does not need to be drawn or played.

  • Foes - The cards that make up most of your deck and the primary means of gaining Impetus and Legacy. Can be played anywhere on the field and attacked by either Legend or their Allies. Many Foes have abilities and/or drop loot.

  • Allies - Can be played in Allied Territory (closest row) and attack other Foes or opponent's Allies. Costs Impetus to play, but does not require Impetus to attack. Allies can have abilities, drop loot, and grant Legacy to your opponenet when defeated. If an Ally defeated a Foe, the allied Legend receives half the Foe's Legacy instead of the full amount. Your opponent's Legend can attack your Allies, and of course the same goes for you.

  • Side Quests - The primary non-character "effect" card in Legacy: The Card Game. Side Quests are automatically played to the field when drawn and can be activated the turn they are played. Side Quests often empower your Legend, weaken the other, or change the state of the field or game in some way that (hopefully) gives you an advantage. As with Foes, any Side Quest on the field can be completed by either Legend. If your opponent leaves a Side Quest on the field that is critical to their victory and you complete it instead, it can be enough to win the game.

Ease of Play

Legacy: The Card Game is free to play, easy to learn, and ready for strategy-loving gamers to find the best ways to leave behind the greatest Legacy... Or just play every game hoping for Single Combat.
