About This Game

You went looking for the way out. Everybody does, at first.

Dissonance is a Backrooms game about coming to understand a place instead of escaping it. Nothing explains itself to you. There are no objectives. There's what you can see, what you can carry, and what you can remember.

Unfamiliar ground is dangerous

The Backrooms don't pay attention to places nobody uses. Walls move when you aren't watching them. Rooms you passed through once won't be quite the same on the way back. Stay out in it long enough and the place loses track of you entirely, and you'll end up a long way from anywhere you know.

Ground you've used behaves. Routes you walk, mark and live in settle down and stay put. Here, familiarity is a property of the world.

A place of your own

Somewhere out there is a room worth keeping. Move into it, fill it, put your weight on it until it holds. It becomes the one fixed point you have, and every trip you take is measured against getting back to it.

Nobody keeps records but you

Spray paint on the walls, notes in a book, photographs of things you can't explain. What you know about this place exists only in the marks you leave and the pages you fill.

You're not the only thing down here

Spend enough time on ground that hasn't settled and you'll start seeing something at the far end of a hall. It doesn't approach while you're looking. It doesn't wait forever, either.

Play solo, or with friends in a world that stays as you left it.

Right now, this is Level 0

Everything above is Level 0. I'm planning a lot more levels, each with its own rules to figure out. It will all be up to the player to understand how they connect and eventually use that knowledge to escape.

The way out exists.
