What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Swimcraft is launching in Early Access so anglers can shape it. The core is here today — the venue creator, the tacklebox, and fishing that makes you work for the take and the fight. From here we're deepening the disciplines, growing the community side, and adding waters, species and tackle, led by what players ask for on the bank. Come and help build it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're targeting 4–6 months of Early Access. The exact timeline depends on community feedback and feature stability. We'll publish a monthly development roadmap in the Steam News section.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access includes:
• Photo-to-venue core mechanic (your photographs become playable waters)
• Tackle editor & rig system
• Single-player fishing loop with seasonal and environmental conditions
• Global records & leaderboards
• Tacklesmith (early form): craft custom hooks, expanding through Early Access
• Steam account integration for persistent progression
Rolling out during Early Access:
• XP and levelling progression (unlock gear and achievements as you fish)
• Specimen catches that drop XP boost coins
• Tacklesmith expansion: create and share floats, rigs, and full setups with the community
• In-game currency earned through Tacklesmith contributions
• Max-level unlock: custom avatar icon upload
• Community features
Full release will add:
• Multiplayer competitive matches
• Advanced venue editor tools
• Expanded tackle library with sponsored brand partnerships
• Tacklesmith integration with real-world tackle/bait discounts from sponsors (redeemable via in-game currency)
• Social features (friend challenges, team leagues)
• Additional single-player game modes
• Mobile port (iOS/Android)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Swimcraft's core loop is complete and stable: photograph a real fishing location, import it, and the photo-to-venue system turns it into a fully playable water. From there you set up your tackle, read the water, and fish it—with live bite behaviour, seasonal conditions, and a working records system.
What's playable now:
• The complete photo-to-venue creation pipeline
• Tackle and rig editor with a growing component library
• Full single-player fishing loop with seasonal and environmental conditions
• Global records and leaderboards
• Tacklesmith (early form): craft custom hooks, with more components rolling out through Early Access
• Steam account integration for persistent progression across sessions
What we're actively building during Early Access:
• XP and levelling progression—earn XP, unlock gear, and complete achievements as you fish
• Specimen catches that reward XP boost coins
• Expanding Tacklesmith so you can craft and share floats, rigs, and full setups with the community
• The in-game currency and reward economy around Tacklesmith creations
• Deeper progression rewards at higher levels (including custom avatar uploads at max level)
• Community features
• Ongoing venue, tackle, and species additions”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We may raise the price as we add significant content and features. Early adopters get the lowest price in exchange for joining early and helping shape the game—as we ship the progression system, expand Tacklesmith, and add venues, tackle, and community features, the price will rise to reflect the fuller experience. We'll always give advance notice before any increase, so wishlisting now is the best way to get in at the entry price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The angling community is at the heart of Swimcraft, and Early Access is where that shows. We're building this alongside the people who'll play it:
• Steam Community Hub — our main channel for discussion, bug reports, and feature requests. We read everything and reply.
• Regular development updates via Steam News, sharing what we're building and why, with players steering priorities.
• In-game community features so anglers can share feedback on venues, tackle, and balance directly.
• Tacklesmith is community-powered by design — as it expands, players create and share their own floats, hooks, and rigs, directly shaping the in-game tackle library.
• Following the real angling world — we're in the carp and coarse fishing communities on YouTube and social media, and we bring that feedback back into development.
• Wishlist and community milestones celebrated with the players who got us there.
Swimcraft is inspired by a game that built a loyal community of its own—we want to honour that by making ours genuinely part of how the game grows.”

About This Game

Every angler has a swim in their head; the pond they grew up on, the lake they dream about, the stretch of canal they walk past every day. Swimcraft lets you build it. Photograph any water and it becomes a living, virtual venue where you can catch the fish you’ve stocked.

**Craft your venue.** Turn a photo into a playable swim. Set the pegs, shape the depths, and stock it with the fish you want to chase, from a runs-waters to a moody, specimen lake holding low stock and a single, named forty. Believable capacity and record limits keep every water honest.

**Rig up like you mean it.** This is tackle with the details left in. Tie real rigs from a hook library drawn from patterns by the leading makers, pick your presentation; pop-up, wafter, bottom bait, and set the lead system to match: lead clip, helicopter, chod, running feeder or ledger. Match the hook, the hooklink, the rig, the bait. Then feed the swim to build its confidence (or overfeed it and watch it back right off).

**Read the water.** Fish don't sit still. Learn to read the swim; the fizz of feeding bubbles, a patch of coloured water, the way fish drop deep in winter and drift into the warmth of summer shallows. Here, watercraft matters as much as tackle.

**Play every fish. Judge the cast, available gear matters. Watch the alarm, the quivertip, the float. And when it goes, play it properly: lean into the fight, pump for line, and don't bully it or you'll lose it at the net. Every fish earned.

**Keep the record.** Log every catch with its rig, bait, peg and weight. Chase personal bests and venue records, and build a catch history that's yours.

**A place for anglers.** Fishing's home online has always been scattered — a forum here, a group chat there. Swimcraft is growing into one place for it: share the venues you've made, talk tackle and rigs, and pass on a bit of watercraft.

**A word on where this comes from.** Swimcraft is made in the spirit of *Fishing Simulator 2* by J.C. Spooner — the game that first showed us you could turn a photograph of a real peg into a water you could actually fish, and made a generation of “simmers” fall in love with the game. Swimcraft is our own build, made with deep respect for what came before. If FS2 was part of your story too, welcome back to the bank.

**Your swim, crafted.**
