Tentang Permainan Ini

What?

Whimzydry is an 8-player local co-op crpg dungeon-crawling blobber inspired by Wizardry and Oubliette.

Why?

There aren't enough local multiplayer blobber games.

Why "Whimzydry?"

Because there's nothing more whimsical than whimsy spelt with a 'z.'

More general why?

When I was camping in May ('26), the biting cold forced us inside. The logs were too saturated to sustain any fire - which was the usual weather. My second cousin twice-removed (henceforth: "uncle" for simplicity), was playing the remake of Wizardry 1 ('24) on his Steam Deck. We'd all settled in for the long haul, everyone spectating getting invested in the success, suggesting the paths to take, pouring over the best course and actions that'd save the characters from certain death, or the next unluckily rigged chest. It was a blast, I'd had a lot of fun, and after I'd returned home I was left wanting for an experience where I was more than just a bystander. So I set out searching for co-op multiplayer blobber games. To my surprise, the pickings were incredibly slim. Not only were there very few multiplayer blobbers, but they didn't have the kind of engagement and focus I was looking for. On top of that, the systems they'd built upon were largely based on D&D, carried forward with different forms of baggage I disliked (like the Ability Scores). So with my gripes noted, and my ideas sketched, there wasn't much of a choice - I had to make the game I wanted to play.

More personal why?

I'm 30 now, which is the preamble to every mid-life crisis. I've received the appropriate license in the mail which noted a wide-array of unhinged freedoms afforded to me at this important milestone (heh.). I've been working on my other game "Jump Off The Bridge" for over 8 years now. It has been a stubborn endeavor, and I'm going to experiment and spread my wings more. Something that has been alluring to me lately has been the idea of smaller-scoped projects. Ambition likes to steal the reins from my hands, and take off running, streaking against the earth like lightning. Hooves upturn the dirt as I clamber for purchase desperate to steer. All this to say it rides a bit further than I'd like, which has brought me to this point. This project is the first in line, and has been my obsession for the last 4 months.

Gameplay?

Whimzydry is a crpg blobber dungeon crawler. It supports from 1 to 8 players taking control of up to 8 characters. The party then descends into the dungeon and attempts to conquer all that lies below. It is a blobber in the true sense, one person driving, steering, and moving the party, while the rest sit along for the ride; choosing their actions in the turn-based battles, casting spells, detecting enemies, using items, equipping, buffing, healing, and engaging in a sort of riding-along-in-the-motorcycle-sidecar-fashion as they progress their characters and push to deeper levels.

Leader is the Driver: Movement

In Whimzydry, one designated character leads the party, while the rest exist within the "blob." Leadership can change at will, with anyone taking a turn and any character can be promoted to lead. The players in the blob can use their spells, items, equipment, and interact with the world as normal, they just don't move the party. Teamwork is of the essence:

Everyone has their characters: Combat

In Whimzydry, up to 8 players can be supported and they can control up to 8 characters. This gives a lot of flexibility with regards to splitting up the responsibility. Encounters scale based on party size, so the game is flexible with your preferred playstyle and complexity. In combat, all characters choose their actions, and they are resolved in a turn-based system:
