Boring Car Stories - Maghrebine des transports et logistique
A driving game focused exclusively on driving slow cars fast. No car in the game has more than 200hp. Half of them don’t even have 100hp. Yet very few games will let you feel this engaged driving something this slow. Set in the 80s in north Africa (Maghreb region)

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We figured that the game in its current state is quite fun when we realized we spent quite a bit of time "playtesting" (aka just enjoying the thing). But everywhere we look, we see stuff that can still be improved. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“For another 12 months after the initial release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We would like to have :
- A few more cars
- Less linear, more complex environments
- In-game period correct music
- Some physics improvements
- Better AI
- Last but not least : The completed story of Yassine in the 80s”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“About 12 hours of gameplay if you drive like a maniac. A bit more otherwise.
25 cutscenes, linear story.
6 cars, each one drives very differently :
- Types : 1 truck (in 4 different specs), 1 hatchback, 1 small sedan, 1 midsize sedan, 1 bigger sedan, 1 sports car
- Layouts : 2 FF, 3 FR, 1 RR
- Engines : 2 NA diesel, 2 turbo-diesels, 3 NA petrol, 4 4 cylinders, 1 5 cylinder, 2 6 cylinders
6 tracks with varying road layouts (3x3 highway, 2x2 highway, 2x1 road, B roads)
Traffic cars with an emphasis on realism and optimization for lower end CPUs
AI that works like 80% of the time (which is why it's only present on select missions)”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will increase as the game gets closer to its final state”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're looking for :
- car suggestions (must be period correct, 80s, sold or could have been imported to north africa as that's where the game is set),
- road sections that would be fun to imitate,
- ingame music contributions,
- Help with localization to your language (we provide the translation, you verify/correct)
We're fully available to chat with our fans on instagram @boringcarstories”

About This Game

The slow car fast driving game you didn't know you needed.

If you're bored by cars with a gazillion horsepower, by roads that are too wide, if you're disappointed by how much less fun the sub 300hp car is in game compared to real life, this is the game for you.

Step in the shoes of Yassine, a 20 something guy learning to be an adult in the 80's in the Maghreb region. Hired at a company called Maghrebine des Transports et Logistique, Yassine starts as a delivery guy then becomes a rep man, driving all kinds of vehicles on all kinds of roads at all kinds of speeds.

What to expect

  • 80s cars with varying layouts (FF, FR, RR) and engines (diesel, petrol, NA, turbo, 4 to 6 cylinders), hovering between 80hp and 180hp, manual transmission and absolutely no electronics

  • Roads and environments inspired by the Maghreb, tailored specifically to make these low powered cars fun

  • Plausible, responsive and fun physics (Simcade leaning towards sim)

  • Force feedback support, (tested and feels great on the Logitech G923, Fanatec CSL 8N.m, Moza R12, Simucube 20N.m, ...)

  • Traffic cars with a personality.

  • AI cars in some stages

  • Story driven gameplay

  • Optimized game. Runs well on lower end PCs

Best enjoyed with a force feedback wheel, still fun with a controller. Playable with a keyboard if you insist.

This game is not for you if :

  • You only care about supercars/hypercars

  • You care about top speed/measuring speed in general more than driving feel

  • You only care about track driving, hotlapping, ...

  • You care about extreme realism (LIDAR track scans, super accurate suspension geometry, reproduction of real life), AAA visual fidelity, basically any extreme attention to detail that would require a AA or AAA team but doesn't necessarily add to the fun.

If this is you, we might have a game for you in the future, but it's definitely not this one.

Inversely, This game is for you if :

  • You prefer driving slow cars fast

  • You prefer accurate road widths

  • You like driving in traffic

  • You don't like electronics in cars (Stability control, Traction control, ...)

  • You don't care about AAA visual fidelity

 About Boring Car Stories

The founding belief of Boring Car Stories is that our day to day driving experiences are the most fun ones. The focus is not on hypercars and on speed, but rather on somewhat regular cars doing irregular driving. If you're familiar with the term "slow car fast", then you know what we're on about.

In most games, cars under 300hp feel unjustly slow. We think it's mostly due to the approach these games have taken. Hypercars are the most marketable, so the games have to make them the main event, which means they have to be playable by anybody.

This leads to roads that are too wide, cars that are overly stable, sound that’s too boring, all for the sake of being able to drive the halo car at its top speed of 300+kph without crashing every 5 seconds.

And while this is great for casual gamers, this leaves everybody else alienated, as it makes every other car feel mind-numbingly slow. It also leads to some cars never being featured in games even though they’re an amazing experience in real life.

Slow cars aren't fast in real life either, but they still feel fast and fun for a couple of reasons. We're aiming to reproduce that.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

- Cutscene voice changer : original audio by voice artist transformed to character voices with AI. No text to speech AI was used as it just wasn't up to standards.
- Cutscene music/jingles, profile pictures and background pictures
- Textures

We are just as repulsed by AI slop (and slop in general) as anybody. We made a conscious effort to drop anything that wasn't up to standard.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: i5-7300HQ 2.50Ghz
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1050
    • Storage: 1 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Should run on anything made in the last 10 years with a dedicated graphics card
