Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Emotion Mask began as a playable prototype created during a 48-hour game jam. The current version has grown into a complete single-player experience with a full level editor, custom art tools, and Steam Workshop integration. Early Access lets me improve these existing systems with real player feedback while continuing to add and refine official content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Early Access to last approximately 6 to 12 months. The schedule may change depending on testing results, technical constraints, and the scope of feedback-driven improvements. I would rather keep the estimate flexible than leave Early Access before the game reaches a stable and polished state.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to add more official levels and challenges while refining the three-emotion platforming and puzzle systems, controls, guidance, balance, accessibility, and presentation. I also plan to improve the level editor, pixel-art and image-import tools, and the process of discovering and playing Steam Workshop creations. Multiplayer racing is in development as a future update, but its final scope and timing will depend on testing and technical feasibility. Other ideas, including additional emotion mechanics, combat, or narrative elements, may be explored during development but are not guaranteed features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version is playable from beginning to end and focuses on a complete single-player loop. Players switch between Calm, Joy, and Anger to reveal platforms, improve movement, dash through breakable obstacles, solve environmental challenges, collect Emotion Shards, activate checkpoints, use the map, record times, and complete official levels. It also includes a full level editor with terrain and object tools, moving platforms, validation and playtesting, PNG/JPG import, a built-in pixel-art editor, and emotion-specific backgrounds. Completed creations can be published to Steam Workshop, while players can browse, subscribe to, favorite, and play community levels. Multiplayer racing is not part of the current version and is planned for a later update.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game is offered at a lower price during Early Access. The price may increase after substantial additions or major improvements, and it may change again when the game leaves Early Access. Any planned price change will be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will collect feedback through Steam Discussions, community announcements, reviews, and Workshop activity. Feedback is especially useful for movement and controls, emotion readability, level difficulty, puzzle guidance, the editor workflow, Workshop discovery, controller support, accessibility, and future multiplayer plans. Important development progress and release changes will be shared through Steam announcements. I may not be able to implement every suggestion, but recurring issues and well-supported requests will help guide priorities.”

About This Game

Emotion Mask is a 2D puzzle-platformer built around emotion switching and player creativity.

You play as a boy wearing a blank mask, changing between Calm, Joy, and Anger. Each emotion reshapes movement, level interactions, and the atmosphere around you. Find hidden routes, cross platforms with more agile movement, or dash through breakable walls in Anger. Read the level, then combine jumps, dashes, wall jumps, shard collection, and well-timed emotion changes to find your own way forward.

Switch Emotions, Change the Level

• Switch between Calm, Joy, and Anger in real time.

• Emotions affect movement, jumping, dashing, platform visibility, and obstacle interactions.

• Each change transforms the character's appearance, environmental color, backgrounds, and feedback effects.

• Use quick switching for immediate action or open the emotion wheel when you need time to choose.

Create Your Own Levels

The built-in level editor provides a complete creation workflow rather than a simple object-placement mode:

• Shape terrain with brush, rectangle, fill, erase, select, pan, and marquee-move tools.

• Place spawns, goals, checkpoints, Emotion Shards, hazards, breakable walls, and decorations.

• Create moving platforms with 1–8 path points, custom movement patterns, and emotion-based visibility.

• Switch between Overview and Visual views, then preview the level in Calm, Joy, and Anger.

• Save drafts, validate the level, playtest from different positions, and capture a preview after completing the test.

Draw and Import Level Art

• Choose from built-in single tiles and auto-joining terrain sets.

• Import PNG/JPG images for custom terrain and emotion-specific backgrounds.

• Draw single tiles or nine-part auto-joining sets in the built-in pixel art editor.

• Adjust colors and combine terrain layers, objects, and backgrounds into a visual style of your own.

Publish and Play Community Creations

After saving, validating, and completing a playtest, add a title, objective, tags, preview image, and visibility setting, then publish your level to Steam Workshop.

Browse new or popular creations, search by tag, and subscribe to, favorite, and play levels made by other players. Installed local and Workshop levels remain playable when Steam is temporarily offline.

Multiplayer Racing in Development

A multiplayer racing mode is in development and planned for a future update. The current release focuses on solo challenges, level creation, and sharing through Steam Workshop. More details will be announced when development milestones are confirmed.

Key Features

• Platforming, exploration, and puzzles driven by three emotion states.

• Jumping, dashing, wall jumps, breakable terrain, checkpoints, and shard collection.

• Keyboard and controller support with customizable controller bindings.

• Optional minimap, full map, checkpoint selection, and safe fast travel.

• A full level editor with pixel art creation, image importing, and three-state background customization.

• Steam Workshop publishing, browsing, subscriptions, favorites, and community-level play.

• Interface support for Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.

Emotion Mask began as a Global Game Jam 2026 project and has grown from a 48-hour prototype into an experience with official challenges, creative tools, and a Steam Workshop ecosystem.
