About This Demo

Smawverse is a dark fantasy bullet heaven, a survivor-like roguelite where your weapons fight for you. You play a stray cat reforged in iron, carving through the undead wreck of a kingdom that fell to its own keeper. Built in Unreal Engine 5.

This demo is the first descent. Four of the Nine are awake, four weapons hang on the rack, the streets rewrite themselves every run, and two bosses stand between you and the end of Prophet Street. Everything you earn carries into your next run.

Pray to the Nine

Nine prophets once held the kingdom together. Now they meditate in stone. Kneel at their shrines and they loan you a fragment of the power that was once theirs.

  • Four prophets are awake in the demo: the Pyromancer, the Cryomancer, the Plague Warden and the Storm Herald. Fire, frost, plague, lightning.

  • Five blessing slots, Common to Legendary. Choose as you level mid-run. No two runs play the same.

  • Stack them deep enough and one cat becomes a screen-clearing storm.

Survive the Unmade

The kingdom's own keeper raised its dead and struck the living from the page. What remains wants you gone.

  • The streets never repeat. From your second run on, the city is laid out differently every time you enter it.

  • Hordes that escalate with the Danger clock until the screen is a wall of enemies.

  • Four weapons, each a different way to fight.

  • The Loremaster walks the streets. Your first expedition meets him, and the city is never the same afterwards.

  • Lord Kazzav waits at the end of Prophet Street. Reach him, and beat him, or the run ends there.

  • Permadeath. The blessings return when you fall. You rise again sharper.

Grow Between Runs

Death is not the end of progress. Everything you earn carries forward into the next descent, and the hideout is where you spend it: the last standing corner of a fallen street, every station working.

  • Prophet Skill Tree: a deep passive tree with a chapter for every prophet. Sixty points and two keystones active at once, three loadouts for separate builds, free respec.

  • The Testament: an end-game tree of its own. Run two prophets together and write a page that belongs to the pair, with spells neither prophet has alone.

  • The Cipher Station: some loot drops with affixes you cannot read. Start deciphering and there is no backing out. You commit, then choose between the original roll and a hidden alternate. Whichever you keep comes out stronger.

  • The Wardrobe: unlock prophet-themed capes by mastering each prophet. Some carry a small edge in battle.

  • The Weapon Rack: four weapons to take down into the streets.

  • A stash that carries between runs, objectives across four chapters with a reward for each, and a summary at the end of every run of what you earned and what to hunt next.

  • The Stone of Legends: leaderboards across four difficulties, each stating its terms up front.

The Story, For Those Who Want It

There was a kingdom called the Daughter of the Sea. Its strength was not armies. It was nine prophets, one sacred scripture called the Word, and a people who fed each other's cats. The man who kept the Word wanted the power it would never give him. So he took it, and he unmade the kingdom with it. The prophets had one failsafe left: a word that could never be written, and a stray cat to carry it. That cat is you.

One cat. Nine prophets. A stolen scripture and the thing that took it. Take back the Word.

The full game

The demo is Prophet Street. The full game wakes the rest of the Nine, fills the rack, and opens the kingdom beyond the street. Wishlist Smawverse to be there when it does.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI image tools were used in producing parts of the 2D art in Smawverse, including user interface art and icons. Every generated image was art-directed, edited and repainted by hand before it shipped.

The game's key art and the prophet portraits were created by a human artist.

Nothing is generated while you play. Smawverse does not create images, text, audio or code at runtime, and it does not connect to any AI service.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Smawverse is a dark fantasy action game set in a world that has already
died. Combat is the core of the game and it is violent throughout.

Violence and blood: You fight the risen dead and the plague-touched,
including reanimated soldiers, townspeople and skeletal remains. Enemies
are killed in large numbers. Kills produce blood effects that spray and
pool on the ground and remain there. There is no dismemberment or
mutilation, and no gore is directed at living humans or animals.

Disturbing imagery: The world is dressed as the aftermath of a mass
death event. Expect bone piles and scattered skeletal remains, corpses,
open graves, a gallows, and medieval instruments of torture such as
hanging cages, chains and a breaking wheel used as environmental
set dressing.

Themes: Plague, mass death, and the collapse of a civilization.

The game contains no sexual content or nudity, no depiction of drug or
alcohol use, and no depiction of self-harm or suicide.
