What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Thug Arena is in Early Access because the game is at a playable state, but there are many things we still want to add. We can make no promises that these things will ever arrive in the game, but we are working on making all of the below features:

Additional weapons: explosives such as rocket launchers, grenades and Molotov cocktails, melee weapons such as katanas and chainsaws.
Additional game modes: team deathmatch, capture the flag, king of the hill, zombies, oddball.
Singleplayer challenge modes.

We are two brothers making the game in our pastime. Our goal has always been to release the game in early access as soon as it's genuinely fun to play. With a complete, working game loop in place, that moment is now.

Early Access means we can build the game alongside the people playing it. Ongoing community feedback will guide what we add, change, and improve as development continues.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Thug Arena to be in Early Access for approximately one year. This is not a promise, but it is our feeling that the above features are probably implemented around 2027 July.
It took us one year to make Thug Arena to the point of a playable and fun Early Access game through evening and weekend development. We plan to keep working on the game to bring all our ideas into the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Currently the game features a deathmatch game mode, 4 different weapons, and 3 different cars. We hope to add more of all.

Different game modes:
Right now, Thug Arena has a Deathmatch mode, where players kill each other to reach a certain kill score to determine the winner.
We additionally want Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Oddball, Zombies, and singleplayer challenge game modes. When and if these game modes arrive, we can't say, other than that we hope to have them as soon as possible ourselves!

Additional weapons:
We would love for the game to have explosives, melee weapons, and more unique weapons such as rocket launchers, grenades, grenade launchers, katanas, chainsaws, flamethrowers, potentially ray guns, blink daggers, energy swords etc. We can make no promises on what the final version of the game will contain, as that depends on development time as well as gamefeel or need.

Additional visuals in the game for vehicles, buildings and other terrain.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is at a playable state on LAN and self-hosted servers. We are working on setting up a public server.

The game has a deathmatch game mode where players compete to be the first one to reach a certain number of kills. More game modes are planned.

The game features 4 weapons: pistol, shotgun, sniper, machine gun. More weapons are planned.

The game has a map editor for players to make new maps. This map editor is fully ready and functioning.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to keep the game at its current price after Early Access.

We have priced the game currently in its Early Access stage at a value where we feel the game and its potential is worth it. However, the final price of the game may be lower, higher or the same as it currently is. We will determine the final price based on player interest and success during our Early Access stage.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We would love to hear your thoughts about the game and any ideas you have for how we can improve it! For that, we welcome everybody to join our Discord server. You can find a link to our Discord server here on the Steam page.

We currently have a hundred things we want to add ourselves, and we can make no promises on what will arrive in the game, but any great ideas that inspire us will be prioritised!”

About This Game

Thug Arena is a fast-paced 2D top-down online multiplayer shooter: get in, shoot your friends, have fun!

The game is in Early Access because there are still many things we still want to add before we consider it done. Currently it features a Deathmatch mode. We are working on Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Oddball, and Zombies game modes. The game also currently has a limited selection of weapons which we would like to expand.

However, the game is at a fully playable state with a working game loop and Thug Arena has a map editor so players can make maps themselves, so already by now the game provides many different matches.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Thug Arena was made with the use of AI and LLMs to generate many of the graphical assets. The game was made by two brothers in our spare time, and none of us are artists or can afford to pay artists for this game. We have used AI creatively to get to a style we liked for the game including most but not all assets, such as trees, buildings, pedestrians and weapons.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Thug Arena is a game where players aim to shoot and kill each other. It is a graphically simple top-down 2D art style, and not excessively gory, but does portray blood. Players can also run over or shoot civilian pedestrians and police officers.

System Requirements
