About This Game

A ring for your beloved. Seven days to earn the gold. A tavern full of wizards willing to wager.

Rutterkin is a first-person card roguelite set in a tavern where rival wizards drink, gamble, and settle their differences over a deck of cards.

Explore the tavern, choose your opponent, and take a seat. Every duel is a chance to get closer to buying that ring—or lose the gold you spent all day earning.

PLAY A MAGICAL TAKE ON SCOPA

Challenge rival wizards in one-on-one card duels inspired by Scopa, reimagined around magic and combat.

Combine your card with cards on the table to make captures totaling 15. Attack your opponent and use magic cards in your captures to cast spells that deal damage, restore Health, manipulate the deck, burn enemy cards, and multiply the pot.

Both you and your opponent have Health and Mana. Decide when to spend your resources and when to save a card for a better opportunity.

Everyone uses the same base deck and follows the same rules. Success comes from mastering combinations, spotting opportunities, and outplaying the wizard across the table.

WAGER YOUR GOLD. MULTIPLY THE POT.

Each wizard requires a minimum wager before accepting a duel. Choose how much to risk within what your opponent is willing to match.

Your opening wager creates the pot, but your cards can make it much bigger. Coins spells multiply its value during a match, turning modest bets into rewards that could change the course of your run.

Win to claim the pot. The more gold you put on the table, the harder it hurts to leave empty-handed.

PREPARE BEFORE YOU TAKE A SEAT

Wizards vary in Health, Mana, and the Artifacts they bring to the table. Choosing your opponent is part of your strategy.

Spend your winnings at the counter on drinks and smoking Artifacts with different effects. Recover resources, strengthen your attacks, gain shields, and discover combinations that suit your playstyle.

Artifacts with charges remaining can stay with you between duels. Decide what to use now and what to save for a tougher opponent.

DRINK CAREFULLY

Your Health and Mana carry over between matches. Even a winning duel can leave you short on resources for the next one.

Drinks help replenish your reserves, but they also increase your drunkenness. Overdo it, and a blackout will end your day early.

Getting knocked out in combat also advances the clock. Waking up the next day restores your strength, but leaves you with one less opportunity to earn the gold.

On the final day, there’s no tomorrow to try again.

THE TAVERN CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK

Knowing the calendar can be just as valuable as knowing the cards.

Take advantage of Wednesday’s sales, prepare for Thursday’s violent wizards, and hunt for opportunities among Friday’s crowded tables. On Saturday, alcohol hits twice as hard. On Sunday, wealthy wizard magnates arrive with higher stakes and more resources to bring into their duels.

Plan your purchases, pick your battles, and make every day count.

EARN THE TAVERN KEEPER’S TRUST

Between matches, help tidy up the tavern.

Collect empty cups and used-up smoking Artifacts and return them to the tavern keeper to earn his trust. Fill the bar to choose a magical ring that grants an upgrade for the rest of your run.

These powers can open up new strategies: conserve Mana, protect your Health, or turn your own drunkenness into an advantage.

SEVEN DAYS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

There’s no fixed number of matches per day. Keep challenging wizards for as long as you can afford the wagers and stay on your feet.

Explore the tavern in first person, watch other wizards play against each other, and decide which table might offer your next pile of gold.

Your goal is to afford the ring before the week ends. Run out of gold or time, and you’ll have to begin a new journey.

Your beloved is waiting for a ring. The wizards are waiting for you to lose.
