What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Here’s what we’ve got so far: quick matches, a 48-nation tournament (the Worst Cup) and a version of Online PvP that even lets you invite friends outside of Steam to play in their browser for FREE. Good stuff, yes, but so much remains to be explored and tested. We have ideas, grand, bizarre ideas. Are they too bizarre? You tell us, maybe you have ideas too. Let’s just get together and make a football game in which you don’t fall asleep waiting for a throw-in.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Provided coding games is still a thing in twelve months that’s about when we're planning to release. At that point, if you say we’re ready we’ll trust your judgment because, apart from your sense of humour, you’re known for your refined taste in games (you wouldn’t be playing this otherwise).”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Now this depends on how LOUD and insistent you are going to be about what you need, but here’s what we had in mind:

- A deeper, more varied core gameplay, with mechanics involving use of items, boosts, special moves, spectator involvement.
- Tutorial and training through mini-games and different accomplishments.
- Customisations: create and share your own teams, personalise your trainer avatar.
- Competitive gameplay with skill-based matchmaking, progression and unlockables.
- Changing weather conditions? Why not.

We have a long long list of features, but we’re going to pretend we have no clue so then you can come and tell us hey, I have a genius idea, you must put it in the game and we’ll be like oh wow you’re so so smart, we would have never ever thought of that and then we implement it and you tell your friends how you saved Bad Football from sucking and made it popular etc…”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Not too shabby:

- Online + Local: play 1v1 quick matches online or on your couch.
- Invite links that let anyone play with you in their browser, they don’t even need Steam (we bragged already)
- Single Player: play against the CPU with 3 difficulty levels (it’s less fun but at least you skill up to play against real people).
- Worst Cup: Choose one of the 48 nations, play group stages and knockout phases, pretend you’re doing it for the glory of the homeland (if that’s your inclination).

There are rough edges here and there, but it wouldn’t be early access if there weren’t.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“For sure! Massively different pricing. Remember how cheap Bitcoin was in 2010? It’s going to be exactly the same with Bad Football, you should definitely hurry up and get it now while it’s cheap. No, actually don’t buy it now so we can profit more later. No ok, you can buy it if you really really want, but don’t come whining if you don’t 10x your ROI in one year. It’s just a game and we’re just two random guys making it. But seriously now, the v1.0 could really be anywhere from €9.99 to €10.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Let’s start with what we are NOT going to do: we are not going to pretend that we can please everyone. For example this game is not going to have an extra button just so you can sprint “easily”. Stop asking! I swear, we’ll ban you from Discord. What we’re going to do instead is to listen to you and ask you WHY a lot, and I mean a lot lot. We’re going to try to get to the bottom of what frustrates you, what makes you laugh, what makes you flip. If you have the patience to talk it through we can make this thing together and make it ours. Are you in? Join the Discord server.”

About This Game

Bad Football is a fast-paced indie football game where rules don’t apply.

Boot the referee to kick off, then do whatever you want on the pitch. Land brutal tackles, roam beyond the touchline, and demolish the goal with overpowered shots.

The game has simple controls but advanced mechanics. Master your craft and you will humiliate your opponents!

Game modes in early access:

  • Online PvP: Invite a friend from Steam, or find a stranger to kick around the field. You can even play against friends that don't have Steam. Just send them an invite link to play directly in their browser.

  • Match: Take on the CPU across 3 difficulty levels, or face a friend in local 1v1. Share a keyboard or plug in controllers to keep your distance.

  • Worst Cup: Pick one of the 48 national teams, battle through the group stage and knockout rounds, and lift the trophy as the best team in the world.

We're hard at work on v1.0. We wish to add to our game:

  • Training: Learn some tricks at your own pace.

  • More game mechanics with items and power-ups

  • Create and share your own teams

  • Refined gameplay based on your feedback!
