About This Game

In RBM Studio's Baetis Campaign, take command of either the Roman or Carthaginian armies in 211 BC. The Baetis Campaign pitted two Roman brothers, Publius Scipio and Gnaeus Scipio, against Hasdrubal Barca and Mago Barca, Carthaginian brothers of Hannibal.

RBM Studio's Baetis Campaign features gameplay based on the historical wargaming boardgames of the 70's and 80's. Players maneuver markers that represent their units on a hexagonal map that mimics the gameboard and cardboard counters of traditional boardgames. During movement, each player alternates moving a single unit at a time until one player passes.   Once that happens, a random number of unopposed actions are given to their opponent. Pass too early and you risk giving your opponent the opportunity to maneuver completely around your forces. Combat is resolved through die rolls modified by terrain, supporting units, and whether or not cavalry will be able to support with a charge.

Victory Points are awarded for eliminating units or commanders, and for capturing towns or camps belonging to your opponent.

The Carthaginians have the opportunity to bribe mercenary forces hired by the Romans. Bribed forces will abandon the Roman side during the night phases.  Carthage also has a powerful unit, Indibilis, who arrives from a secret entry hex in Turn 3, forcing the Roman player to guard against three possible entry points.

Key Features

  • Command your units in an historically accurate representation of battle during the Punic Wars.

  • Maneuver to try and pin your opponent's forces, while keeping your own free to act.

  • Make sure your opponent's losses outweigh your own but always be ready to capture a camp or town for extra points.

  • Choose your fights carefully - losing units attempting to capture a well-defended hex without adequate preparation is a sure path to defeat.

  • Solo play as both sides to explore the rules and potential strategies.

  • Solo play against an AI designed to challenge players of any skill level.

  • Online multiplayer play against a human opponent.
