What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Etymancy has a playable gameplay loop, interesting and dynamic content, and enough fun stuff to keep the player busy for a while. That being said, my core vision for the game includes a lot of cool visuals, sprites, animations, and game-changing content that isn't currently present. The game also benefits massively from player feedback, and Early Access is a great way to give players access to the current build, while also using feedback to make the game better.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current target is maybe 6-12 months, but that's just a rough estimate. Depending on player feedback, balancing issues, and the way the game evolves during development, I could see that number changing.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan for the full version to be way more visually dynamic and impactful. The main thing I want to focus on is dynamic and satisfying animations, full sprites, and more visual features that really give the player the sense that they're descending into the dungeon and challenging insane foes. I'd also like to add additional grimoires, enemies, tile effects, encounter variety, bosses, progression systems, balance refinements, tutorial improvements, audio polish, soundtrack, and quality-of-life features. I really want the game to feel like its own mystical world.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes the core word-building roguelite loop: word casting, letter racks, tile variants and statuses, collectible grimoires, enemies, elite encounters, deity fights, markets, chests, bonfires, path choices, a tutorial, run history, and a grimoire archive. Balance, content volume, progression, presentation, and usability are constantly being improved. There's currently no soundtrack in the game, and minimal visuals/sprites, but more visual and audio polish is planned.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase as more gameplay, visual, and audio features are added, but I don't imagine it will get far more expensive, and I plan on communicating any price changes well in advance. I want to make Etymancy accessible for everyone.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is essential for tuning balance, improving readability, identifying confusing tile or enemy effects, adjusting pacing, developing new content, and implementing quality-of-life improvements. I plan to garner as much feedback as possible through playtests and other methods. I plan to use Steam's forums to garner feedback.
