What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Renegades is already playable as a party RPG with deckbuilding combat, but it is the kind of game that benefits from long-form player feedback: card balance, character builds, encounter pacing, world-map flow, and how much story weight players want between battles.

My goal for Early Access is to build the game with players while the core systems are still flexible. I want to learn which character mechanics feel distinct, which decks create interesting choices, which encounters are memorable, and where the game needs more clarity, challenge, or restraint.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Renegades to remain in Early Access for about 6 to 12 months.

That may change depending on the amount of content I add, how much balance iteration the combat needs, and what I learn from players. I would rather take the time to make the party, deckbuilding, and campaign structure feel solid than rush to a fixed date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to add more player options via more characters and deeper specializations, expand the campaign, and polish the game across combat, story, UI, art, audio, and balance.

Planned areas of growth include more characters with unique mechanics and decks, more story content, more encounters, more enemies, more cards and mastery options for existing characters, additional gear and consumables, stronger event variety, improved onboarding, better encounter pacing, and final tuning for each character’s unique mechanics. Some systems present in the codebase or design, such as larger heroic combat moments, may also be revised or reintroduced once they are ready.

The heart of the game will remain the same: a party RPG where each character has their own deck, role, wounds, and reasons to keep walking.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes the core party RPG and deckbuilding combat loop: a roster of five characters, three active party members per battle, character-specific decks, tactical turn resolution, enemy intents, status effects, mastery progression, gear, consumables, story events, a world map, and save/load support.

Players can fight multi-wave encounters, explore Points of Interest, make narrative choices, build character decks, and experiment with distinct mechanics for each hero. The game is still actively in development, so balance, UI, encounter pacing, art, audio, and some content presentation will continue to change throughout Early Access.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I expect the price to increase when Renegades leaves Early Access, as the game grows in content, polish, and overall scope, but as this is an indie game I want to remain within reasonable pricing limits.

My intent is for Early Access players to receive good value for supporting the game early. Any price change will be communicated ahead of time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be especially important for balance, clarity, pacing, and build variety.

I plan to use Discord and Steam Discussions and regular development updates to gather feedback on cards, character mechanics, encounters, bugs, UI pain points, and campaign flow. The game also includes a local bug report tool, which helps capture useful context when something goes wrong. I will be looking closely at what players build, where they struggle, which characters feel best, and which parts of the road need more work.”

About This Game

Renegades is a turn-based party card battler about five fugitives trying to cross a kingdom that has decided people like them should disappear.

The Kingdom of Valdris has outlawed unsanctioned magic. The old orders have bent, the roads have gone dark, and the people who once held the frontier together are being hunted. Your party did not set out to save the world. They defected, survived, and kept walking.

Choose three characters for each battle. Each has their own deck, hand, items, defenses, and role in the fight. Every turn, play cards drawn from the deck of your characters in combat, spend your actions carefully, then watch the round resolve: your party first, enemies second. Complete optional objectives to win rewards in the form of more power or better loot.

Key Features

  • Multi-character card tactics- Fight with 3 active characters from a roster of 5, each with an independent deck and tactical identity.

  • Deterministic turn resolution - Plan your round, play cards in any order, then weather the enemy response.

  • Distinct party roles - Hold the line with Hyperion, heal and break enemies with Solyn, set traps with Faide, mark and detonate with Luciana, and turn blood into power with Arinas.

  • A world map built around visible choices - Explore the Greenveil Forest, uncover Points of Interest, face roaming threats, and decide which roads are worth the risk.

  • Original music - that captures the spirit of battle and the Renegades world.

  • Narrative consequences with mechanical weight - Events, defeats, and hard choices can leave temporary emotion cards in your deck: Hope, Shame, Vengeance, Grief, and more.

  • Character growth through mastery - Invest in character-specific mastery lines to unlock new cards, passives, and stronger tactical identities.

  • Gear, consumables, and battle rewards - Shape your loadouts between fights and earn bonuses for clean victories, risky plays, and careful execution.

This is a game about tactics under pressure, trust earned slowly, and the small decisions people make when every road leads north.
