What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Grid Lands is an experimental take on Minesweeper set in a persistent, shared multiplayer world. Many of its core systems — territory pacing, the coin economy, defensive item costs, the rating system, and how PvE and PvP coexist — can only be properly balanced with a real player population playing in real time on a real map. Early Access lets us release the game once it's stable and fun, then keep tuning balance, refining controls, and adding features based on what players actually do, rather than guessing in a closed playtest. Expect ongoing balance changes and new content during the EA period, with the core experience staying recognizable throughout.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Something around 6-8 months, until we feel the economy and PvP balance are stable.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More shop items, refined leaderboard/rating, possibly seasonal world resets, polish, possibly more PvE content.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We have fully playable version ready at the moment. It is already cross-platform and tested on 100+ players.
It contains persistent world, sweep/flag/recycle loop, shop with turrets/bunkers/bastions/shields, barbarian camps, leaderboards, world map.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise as Grid Lands gains content during Early Access. Whenever it does, every new copy will continue to include in-game premium items of equivalent value — starting with Paint Buckets, and likely more item types as the game grows. Players who buy earlier pay less for the same core game; players who buy later pay more but receive proportionally more premium items in the bundle.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our main community hub is Discord, where we discuss balance, bugs, and upcoming features. We also actively read Steam discussions, comments, and reviews — every post gets seen. Player feedback directly shapes our balance tuning and roadmap, and we publish a changelog with each update so the community can track how their input lands in the game.”

About This Game

A persistent, grid-based world where Minesweeper grows up and learns to fight back.

Grid Lands takes the classic logic of opening cells, placing flags, and reading numbers — then drops it into a shared, always-on world that thousands of players are carving up at the same time. Stake out your home tile, sweep your way outward through dangerous terrain, fortify what you've claimed, and decide whether the neighbors are friends, rivals, or just walls waiting to be knocked down.

This isn't a puzzle you finish. It's a map you live on.

Sweep, Claim, Fortify

Every cell on the map starts closed. Tap to open it, long-press to flag it, and let the numbers tell you what's hiding underneath. The familiar Minesweeper rhythm is the heartbeat of the game — chord-open numbered tiles when their flags match, auto-flag rows of obvious mines, and chain whole regions open in a single satisfying cascade.

But here, every tile you open is yours. Your color spreads across the map as you sweep. Build smart and your territory becomes a fortress; sweep recklessly and a single mine can level everything you've worked for.

Recycle, Build, Defend

Coins drive everything. Once you've fully surrounded a cell with your own territory, flag it and recycle it for coins — turning safe ground into the economy that fuels your war chest.

Spend those coins in the shop:

  • Turrets — Place them on walls to automatically shoot at enemy neighbors. Tap a turret to cycle through valid targets.

  • Bunkers — Reinforce your walls so they can take a beating.

  • Bastions — Stack a turret on a bunker for a hardened defensive emplacement that doesn't go down easy.

  • Shields — Activate a temporary force field that protects your entire territory while it's on cooldown. Your avatar broadcasts the shield to everyone watching the map.

Every defense you build is visible to every player in the world. Your borders speak for you.

A Living, Persistent World

Grid Lands runs on a single shared map that keeps ticking whether you're online or not. Players spawn into chunks placed near — but never on top of — existing homes, so the frontier is always growing. Pan with WASD, scroll to zoom, and pop open the fullscreen world map to see the whole battlefield rendered as a tapestry of player colors. Tap any cell to jump straight there.

  • Browse and search players and points of interest.

  • See who's online right now.

  • Climb the leaderboards with a rating system that rewards survival, growth, and aggression — and penalizes self-destruction.

  • Play across web, desktop, and mobile with the same account, the same world, and the same fight.

Barbarians at the Gate

You're not just up against other players. Barbarian territories spawn across the world and stake out enemy ground with a tent-marked Camp at their center. Destroy a Camp and you'll wipe out the surrounding barbarian cells and pocket a bounty. Your bastions automatically take aim when one shows up next door.

It's PvE for when the neighbors are quiet — and a steady source of coins for players willing to push outward.

Built for Real Play

Grid Lands respects your time and your hands:

  • Desktop hotkeys for everything: focus home, open the world map, navigate dialogs, and pan with WASD — with on-screen hints that surface when you hold Ctrl.

  • Smooth pinch-zoom on touch with continuous panning while you scale.

  • Persistent zoom level between sessions — pick up exactly where you left off.

  • Connection indicator with auto-reconnect and one-tap manual retry, so flaky networks don't cost you a turret.

  • Color customization — paint your territory in whatever shade marks you out on the map.

Make the Map Yours

Pick a name, choose your color, and walk out into a world that's already in motion. Every coin you bank, every wall you raise, and every camp you raze leaves a trace on the shared grid. Other players will see what you built. Some will respect it. Some will test it.

Grid Lands is Minesweeper if Minesweeper had borders, neighbors, and consequences.

Sweep wisely. Build smart. Hold your ground.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Grid Lands uses generative AI during development in three areas: some in-game illustrations and icons are produced with AI image-generation tools, some player-facing text (in-game copy and store-page text) is drafted with AI writing assistance, and our developers use AI coding assistants while writing the game. All assets, text, and code are reviewed and refined by our team before release. The game itself does not use generative AI at runtime — no player data is sent to AI services during play, and no in-game content is generated live.
