A dungeon colony sim where you play the dungeon itself: its Boss, its minions and the beasts in its caves. Dig out halls, wire deadly traps, and raid the world above for treasure. Then hold your hoard against the heroes who come to take it back. Play alone or in 2–4 player co-op.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Malignus is a big sandbox, and players find stories and problems that we never see in our own tests. Early Access lets us shape the next year of updates around how people play.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan about one year of Early Access, with monthly updates on a steady schedule.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game is already large in scope. We plan to spend most of Early Access on stability and balance, and on features that players ask for. We also plan to add Steam Workshop support during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Malignus is fully playable today. Every feature on this page is in the game: six monster races, four Bosses, wired traps, invasions, prisoners, overworld raids, more than 30 creatures, four schools of magic, and 2–4 player co-op. Expect some bugs and balance changes while we polish.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We plan to raise the price when the full version releases. Players who buy during Early Access keep the game and every update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Every build has an in-game feedback form, and we read the Steam discussions and our subreddit. Player reports from the free demo, which was also our beta test, shaped the game you see today. We plan to keep building around that feedback.”

About This Game

You are the dungeon.

Inspired by Dungeon Keeper and RimWorld.

Your Boss rules from the throne. Your minions dig the halls, haul the loot and guard the prisoners, and they have opinions about all of it. Your caves fill with creatures to tame or eat. Raid the settlements above for treasure, then hold it against the adventurers who come to take it back.

Rule together. Build one shared dungeon in 2–4 player co-op.

  • Carve out your dungeon. Dig through solid rock, shape rooms, and fill them with workshops, beds, thrones, altars and traps.

  • Command six monster races. Goblins, kobolds, orcs, gnolls, bugbears and ogres each bring their own strengths.

  • Manage a dungeon full of personalities. Dozens of traits, grumbles and breakdowns mean your minions won't always behave.

  • Turn your halls into a deathtrap. Dart throwers, spinning blades, flamethrowers, gas, electric coils and webs. Wire them to pressure plates, tripwires, sensors, levers and timers.

  • Hold what you stole. Invasions grow larger and deadlier, with 6 adventurer races, 10 classes and more than 40 traits.

  • Keep plenty of prisoners. Chain up the survivors and interrogate them for secrets. Your minions expect a proper dungeon to have captives.

  • Raid the world above. Send your minions across the overworld, command every raid in real time, and face a world that remembers what you did.

  • Choose your Boss. Rule with one of four Boss monsters whose powers grow with your hoard.

  • Practice the dark arts. Cast Pyromancy, Electromancy, Necromancy and Shadowmancy spells, perform rituals, and bargain with dark gods for boons.

  • Tame what lurks below. More than 30 wild creatures live in the caves. Build one of nine lair types, tame them as pets, or hunt them for food.

  • Keep the dungeon running. Feed your minions, give them beds, craft their gear, and keep order through disasters and tempers.

Make it your own. Steam Workshop support comes during Early Access.
