Gridhammer is a tactical plate battler where two players draft from one shared pool of 45 plates. Place plates on a grid, capture by matching higher corner values, and chain cascading flips. Every plate you draft is one your opponent loses.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“ Early Access puts the core gameplay loop — plate placement, combo chains, and grid control — directly in players' hands. The foundation is built and playable; now we need your feedback shaping House balance, tuning, and quality-of-life features rather than developing in isolation. The community's input during this phase will directly influence how GridHammer evolves toward 1.0.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ We're targeting 3–6 months, with a full release goal of late 2027. The exact timeline depends on the scope of community feedback and how quickly we can iterate on balance and content additions. We'd rather ship 1.0 when it's right than rush past what players are telling us.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand GridHammer throughout Early Access with ranked multiplayer and matchmaking refinements, new game modes, and additional competitive features. UI and UX improvements will be driven directly by player feedback. We plan to add multi-language localization for all interface text (the game has no voice acting), Steam Deck optimization, and deeper Steam integration including achievements, friend invites, cloud saves, and rich presence. Balance tuning will be an ongoing process informed by community play data.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version launches with the full core gameplay loop.

Five Houses — each with distinct stat identities and combo chain rivalries — clash on a 6×6 grid.

Both players draw from a shared cache of 45 plates across two waves of combat.

Three AI difficulty levels are available for single-player, and a hands-on tutorial teaches placement, captures, and combo chains as you play.

Online multiplayer is planned for Early Access and will be refined throughout the process.

Full controller and keyboard/mouse support are included at launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“● GridHammer will be available for $4.99 during Early Access. We plan to increase the price to an appropriate value at the 1.0 launch once online multiplayer and cosmetic customizations are finalized in place.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“ Player feedback is at the center of how GridHammer evolves. We'll be actively reading and responding to Steam discussions, reviews, and community channels to identify balance issues, quality-of-life improvements, and feature priorities. House balance and combo chain tuning will be informed by how players actually engage with the game rather than internal assumptions. We plan to share development updates regularly so players can see how their input shapes each update.”

About This Game

Forge your strategy. Shatter your rival.

GridHammer is a head-to-head tactical battler set in a world of dwarven forge masters. Two players share a 5×5 grid and a common pool of 45 metal plates. Every plate has four sides, every side has a value from 2 to 8, and every placement is a decision that can cascade into devastating combo chains — or a catastrophic misread.

No luck. No loot boxes. Pure positioning.

Five houses of master smiths — Stillforge, Runeweaver, Embercrest, Stoneheart, and Shadowmine — each contribute 9 plates to a shared forge pool. Both forge masters draw from the same pool. You start with 6 plates in hand and draw a new one after every play. The strategy isn’t what you get — it’s where you put it.

Directional combat

Every house distributes its power differently across four edges. Embercrest dominates from above. Shadowmine crushes from below. Stillforge anchors from the left. Stoneheart locks down the right. Runeweaver stays balanced with no exploitable weakness. A low-tier plate in the right position captures a high-tier plate in the wrong one.

The Hammer

Every seven turns, the hammer falls. All plates on the board lose one durability. Every plate starts with 3 durability — Hero, Rare, Common — and plates that break shatter and recycle back into the forge pool. Timing your placements around the slam is as important as reading your opponent.

Forge Essence

Each forge master carries a vial of 30 Forge Essence. Every capture drains 1 from your rival’s vial. Shatter a plate and it drains 2 instead. Reduce their vial to zero and the battle is over.

Combo chains

The five houses form a combo ring. Capture a plate whose house your house dominates, and the captured plate re-checks from its new position — cascading into chain captures that can flip the entire board.
