What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Broken Crown is already fully playable in its core systems, including base building, resource gathering, army recruitment, research, Fog of War, tactical combat, campaign missions, skirmish battles, survival gameplay, achievements, and save/load support.

We are choosing Early Access because we want to continue expanding the game together with the community. The main foundation is already in place, but we believe player feedback will be extremely valuable for improving balance, mission pacing, AI behavior, usability, and future content.

Early Access allows us to keep developing Broken Crown in a transparent way while involving RTS players directly in the growth of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Broken Crown to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months.

This may change depending on player feedback, the amount of content added during development, and the level of polish required before the full release. Our goal is not to rush the process, but to continue improving the game with regular updates until it feels ready for a complete release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access, we plan to expand Broken Crown with additional campaign missions, more maps, improved balance, AI refinements, quality-of-life improvements, and further polish based on community feedback.

We also intend to continue improving the overall experience with better mission flow, additional gameplay tuning, more strategic variety, and possible support for user-created content such as custom maps.

The core RTS experience is already present in the Early Access version, while the full version is planned to include more content, better balancing, additional polish, and a more complete campaign experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of Broken Crown is fully playable and includes the main RTS gameplay loop.

Players can build and expand a settlement, gather resources, recruit different unit types, research upgrades, progress through visual unit tiers, command armies in formation-based battles, explore maps with Fog of War, complete campaign missions, play skirmish battles, face survival challenges, unlock Steam achievements, and use save/load functionality.

The game already includes multiple systems such as worker management, base construction, defensive structures, tactical maps, minimap navigation, clickable notifications, veterancy, and large-scale battles with hundreds of units.

Some areas are still being expanded and refined, including additional missions, balance, AI behavior, usability, map variety, and overall polish.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to launch Broken Crown in Early Access at a lower price than the final full release.

As the game grows with additional content, more campaign missions, new maps, improvements, and further polish, the price may increase gradually. Any price changes will reflect the amount of content and improvements added during development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of Broken Crown’s Early Access development.

We plan to collect feedback through the Steam Community Hub, reviews, discussions, Discord, and social channels. Player feedback will help us improve balance, mission difficulty, AI behavior, usability, map design, and future content priorities.

We also plan to share development updates, patch notes, screenshots, progress reports, and upcoming plans so players can follow the evolution of the game and help shape its direction.

Our goal is to build Broken Crown together with RTS players who enjoy base building, tactical battles, army progression, and large-scale strategy gameplay.”

About This Game

Broken Crown is a fantasy real-time strategy game built for players who miss the depth, scale, and tactical control of classic RTS titles.

Start with a small group of survivors and build a new settlement from the ruins of a broken world. Gather wood, stone and food, construct your base, manage your economy, recruit workers and soldiers, and expand your forces until your fragile camp becomes a true stronghold.

But survival is only the beginning.

Command hundreds of units in large-scale, formation-based battles where positioning, scouting and timing matter. Infantry holds the frontline, archers fire from behind, cavalry strikes with speed, scouts reveal the unknown, medics keep your army alive, and leader units can turn the tide of battle.

Your army does not remain the same. Units can advance through five visual tiers, changing their appearance as your technology improves. Troops that survive combat can also gain experience and rise through veteran ranks, visually progressing from normal soldiers to Bronze, Silver and Gold veterans.

Every battle is shaped by the land around you. Explore maps with Fog of War, bridges, choke points, narrow passages, lakes, ruins, camps, skeletons and battlefield details. Control the terrain, defend key passages, and use the map to your advantage.

Broken Crown is not about chaotic blobs or mindless clicking. It is about building, scouting, reacting and commanding your army with clarity.

Key Features

Classic RTS Base Building
Build and expand your settlement with workers, houses, warehouses, walls, gates, towers, military structures and research buildings. Watch structures rise through visible construction stages as your base grows.

Resource Management
Gather and manage essential resources while expanding your economy, increasing storage capacity and supporting a growing army.

Large-Scale Battles
Command hundreds of units on the battlefield while keeping formations readable and controlled.

Formation-Based Combat
Organize your army with infantry, archers, cavalry, scouts, medics, workers and leader units. Positioning matters: protect your backline, hold choke points and strike at the right moment.

Five Visual Unit Tiers
Advance each unit type through five different tiers, with stronger appearances that make your army’s progression visible on the battlefield.

Bronze, Silver and Gold Veterans
Keep your troops alive and watch them become battle-hardened veterans. Experienced units visually progress through veteran ranks, making elite survivors stand out in your army.

Deep Research Tree
Unlock upgrades that improve economy, gathering, movement, recruitment speed, combat strength and access to higher unit tiers.

Fog of War and Scouting
Explore unknown lands with a layered Fog of War system. Areas can be unexplored, discovered or actively visible depending on your units’ presence.

Tactical Maps
Fight across different map sizes, biomes and layouts, with bridges, natural choke points, narrow passages and strategic terrain that influence every battle.

Clickable Notifications
React quickly to attacks, completed buildings and recruited units with in-game notifications that let you jump directly to the action.

Multiple Game Modes
Play campaign missions, skirmish battles and endless survival challenges as you build, defend and conquer.

Save and Load System
Continue your campaign or battles with a save system designed for longer RTS sessions.

Gameplay Philosophy

Broken Crown rewards thinking, not spamming.

A larger army is not always enough. Poor scouting, weak economy, reckless expansion or bad positioning can collapse an entire battle line.

Build carefully, explore the map, research the right upgrades, defend key locations and keep your veteran troops alive. Victory comes from preparation, timing and battlefield control.
