About This Content

Rail Route - Expect Delays brings wear, breakdowns and disruptions to your railway, and gives you the trains, buildings and upgrades to handle them.

  • New train: the Service Locomotive. A yellow work train you drive like any other. It repairs worn and broken infrastructure as it passes over it, and it can couple to a broken-down train and tow it away.
  • New building: the Maintenance Depot. Home of your maintenance fleet. Build depots, buy service locomotives, and send them where they are needed. In Timetable mode, service locos wait ready at your borders.
  • New mechanic: infrastructure wear. Tracks, switches, signals and sensors wear down with use, busy lines faster than quiet ones. Worn switches throw slower, worn tracks slow trains down, and neglected elements eventually fail.
  • New overlay: the condition map. Press M to see the condition of your whole network, green to red. You spot problems before they become failures.
  • Four new incident types. Trains break down and block the line. Storms slow whole areas and can damage tracks. Power outages switch off your sensors, so you route trains by hand. Border trains can arrive late. Every incident can be fixed.
  • Seven new system upgrades. Unlock the Maintenance Depot, stable up to five service locos per depot, repair twice as fast, unlock automated service routes, and take control of your contracts with custom periods and operating hours.
  • New automation: service routes. Draw a maintenance route once, and a service loco drives it on its own, on demand or on a schedule, repairing everything it passes.
  • New contract controls. Choose how often each contract repeats. Give contracts operating hours, so a commuter line runs only in the morning rush and a night freight only after dark.
  • Fair scoring. Delays caused by incidents are never counted against you. Every minute of delay you recover pays a bonus.
  • You set the difficulty. Turn each incident type on or off. Set disruption frequency from Off to Relentless. Slow down or turn off wear. Add a little random variation to arrival times. You can enable Expect Delays on an existing save.

Expect Delays works in Endless and Timetable modes on any map, and is fully compatible with Happy Passengers.

Things go wrong. You fix them. That is the real test of a dispatcher.
