What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Virtual Reality is a new medium, and honestly, we are still discovering what works and what doesn't. We believe the best VR experiences are the ones that are impossible in reality, but if that's true, then what should these new experiences be like? We think the best path to developing amazing VR experiences is constant testing and feedback from users. And lots of experimentation! After all, our goal is to create an entirely new way of experiencing music.

So if you create music, if you build visuals, or if you are an avid fan of music, we need you.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan on launching the full product by the end of 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Over the course of Early Access, we will develop platform features that will provide new types of tools for artists to create shows with and new ways for fans to experience those shows.

We'll know it's ready for release when we have enough content on the platform and feel 100% confident with the quality of the experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now we have some basic social features, a little bit of content, and we will be throwing at least one show per week.

We’ll be expanding the content on the platform as well as iterating on the social experience of throwing your own shows.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“TheWaveVR is a free experience for now. We’re all musicians here at TheWaveVR, so it's important to us to find ways of supporting artists and musicians. We’ll be experimenting with different ways of doing this, so we’d love your input!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We highly encourage feedback from everyone! Whether it's a feature request, bug report, or general comment, we absolutely need the community's involvement in order to build this platform.”

TheWaveVR 0.14.0: A Holly Jolly Update

Happy Holidays from TheWaveVR! In this update, we’re introducing some features we’ve been working very hard on over the last few months. There’s lots of exciting things planned for 2019 that we can’t wait to share with you in the new year!

What you’ll see in today’s update is the prototype launch of our new UGC tool, the WaveMaker. The full version of the WaveMaker will be available early next year, but we can’t wait to see what you come up with in the meantime. Any scenes you made in the earlier WaveBuilder tool will no longer be available. Moving forward, everything you create with this prototype version of the WaveMaker tool will be compatible with future versions of the WaveMaker.

We’ve added some new music to the DJ deck, including a brand new track from a highly requested artist (more to come on this soon!).

We’ve introduced two new tabs to the Social section of the Main Menu: Recent and Blocked. Blocking is a feature we introduced a little while ago, but now it’s easier to do. You’ll also have the option to “Mute” a player, which is useful if someone leaves their headset around with an active mic.

This update also officially unlocks Desktop mode! We’re looking forward to being accessible by more and more people. Desktop is still a prototype, and for now spectator-only. You won’t be able to use the WaveMaker, the DJ deck, or throw parties. You will be able to go to live and recurring shows and attend parties thrown by other users.

  • Move: WASD or Arrow keys
  • Teleport: Right mouse or Space
  • Interact/Pick up item: Left mouse
  • Use held item: Click/hold Left mouse or E
  • Direct hand control: Hold Middle mouse or Shift
  • Open Menu: Tab or Esc
  • Put away item: select “Unequip item” under Items tab of Menu
-Added new music
-Added a “Mute” ability, improved Blocking methods
-Prototype launch of WaveMaker
-Unlocked Desktop mode
-Removed store and currency system. All items are now acquired through exploration.
