A top-down action-adventure in a Slavic-folk world grown over a ruined Roman town. A child is taken beyond the walls, and getting them back is not the end of it. Choose one of three travellers, follow the roads beyond the walls, and walk them to their ends.

About This Game

Vindobona

Vindobona was Roman once. Its walls still stand, its people are Slavic, and beneath it lies a wound in the world. When a child goes missing, somebody has to walk the roads the town stopped using — and bring them home.

Three Travellers, Three Ways to Fight

Each traveller has a personal quest and a unique weapon upgrade.
  • Aisulu fights on the move with her Hunting Bow — aim independently as you run, and Twirl out of trouble.
  • Vlastimir places each Blunderbuss shot where it will burst, then Shoulders his way through whatever is left.
  • Ambroz channels a beam through his Staff, and can Melt: turn to liquid and slip through bodies, rocks and inner walls.

A world that remembers

  • 16 levels across four regions — forest and fen, graveyards and ossuaries, cracked drylands, and what lies below.
  • Over a dozen bosses, among them one you can never hurt and a funeral procession you can only survive.
  • Over 30 creatures waiting in the wilds, each with its own way of coming at you.
  • A living town — named townsfolk with their own routines, a tavern, a forge and market stalls, and a Town Ledger where your coin keeps the town standing.
  • Death is not a reset. You wake in the last safe place you reached; your cleared rooms, coin and upgrades are where you left them.
  • Grow your weapon — pick upgrades as you clear levels, and follow a personal quest to its signature form.
  • A map that fills in as the townsfolk name places for you, and a bestiary written as a record of what you have witnessed.

Also

  • Keyboard-and-mouse and full controller support, with live rebinding for both.
  • Original soundtrack by a human composer.
  • Single-player and entirely offline. Combat contains no blood or gore.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI was used during development to create pre-generated in-game visuals, including some character portraits, and to assist with dialogue, text and localized versions of that text. Other portraits, the commissioned key art and the music were created by human artists. Vindobona does not generate AI content during gameplay.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Vindobona contains stylized fantasy violence and dark folk-horror themes. Players fight supernatural creatures using ranged weapons. The game includes skeleton enemies, bone and skull imagery, graves, persistent defeated-enemy corpses, an upgrade icon depicting stylized blood, and references to alcohol. Combat is stylized and bloodless. Defeated creatures collapse, crumble to ash, or break apart into non-graphic pieces, and their remains stay on the ground. There is no blood or gore.
