About This Game

You are a British soldier during WW1, trapped in an endlessly looping trench. To get out, you will need to reach the final trench by identifying any anomalous changes that were not there before.

Carefully inspect the trench — things may not be as they seem!

  • If you spot an anomalous change, you have something to report. Go Left!

  • If you have nothing to report. Go Right!

Shellshock is a short anomaly hunting experience (up to 30 minutes) inspired by liminal spaces and psychological horror. If you correctly Identify any changes in the trench you will progress to the next loop.  If you do not correctly identify a change or you think there was a change when there wasn't, you'll go back to trench 0 and start again.  Your goal is the reach the final trench and escape.

Gameplay

  • There is nothing to report in the first trench.

  • Walk through all following trenches and look for changes.

  • Take your time. Pay attention.

  • Some changes are easy to spot; others are more difficult.

  • The trench is short, but the differences are randomised in each loop — sometimes there are no changes at all.

  • Once you are sure whether there is a change or not, exit using the appropriate door.

Game Modes

Reach Trench 20

  • Successfully reach trench 20 and escape the trench.

  • Your anomaly progress is saved when you reach the end of every trench.

  • Continue where you left off at any time by selecting continue from the main menu.

You can play reach trench 20 mode multiple times until you find all 60 anomalies (including the achievements) by choosing continue from the main menu.

Find them all:

  • Keep running the trench until you find all 60 anomalies.

  • This mode provides a challenge by allowing you to keep running the trench until you find all of the anomalies

  • Like Reach trench 20, this mode saves your progress so you can take a break and return at any point by choosing continue from the Main Menu.

Features

  • Playtime is around 10–30 minutes depending on difficulty.

  • Game mode determines which trench number you must reach to escape.

  • There are a total of 60 anomalies.  Ranging from easy to difficult to spot.

  • Non-repeating anomalies during normal play.  You will not see an anomaly twice, until you reach the end of the anomaly list or you choose "New Game" from the Main Menu.

  • Once you have reached the end of the anomaly list, only the anomalies you missed will be shown again.  This will repeat until you have identified all anomalies.

  • Simple controls:
    WASD – Move
    Mouse – Look
    Shift - Run
    CTRL - Crouch

  • Controller supported

  • Some anomalies may include upsetting or graphic content related to themes of war and injury.

  • Continue where you left off:

    • The game will save your progress at the end of each trench.  You can leave and return at any time without losing progress in the current game mode. If you complete "Reach trench 20", pressing continue will begin a Reach trench 20 game keeping your current saved progress, allowing you to find all 60 anomalies (including the achievements) over multiple Reach trench 20 games.

    • The "New Game" function in the main menu will reset your anomaly history and start a new game in the selected mode.    Changing the game mode will also reset your anomaly history and start a new game in the newly selected mode.

  • Anomaly List

    • Once you have identified or missed an anomaly.  It will be marked at the end of the trench.  You can also find more detailed information about the anomaly in the pause menu and during the end cutscene.
