About This Game

Wage wars across the continent of Avareon, a story-rich world consumed by economic, political and military struggle. Lead armies, defeat your opponents in deterministic battles, upgrade your technology and recruit powerful heroes to claim dominance.

Every battle is decided before it begins.

War of Avareon has no dice and no lucky rolls. Combat is fully deterministic: unit counters, veterancy, fortifications and your heroes decide every outcome. When you lose a territory, you can see exactly why, and you can plan better next turn.

Build the war machine

Turn each territory into farmland, mines, barracks or fortifications. Every territory has its own history and grants a permanent bonus to whoever holds it, so where you expand matters as much as how far. Research a 21-technology tree to shape your economy, your armies and your command.

Every unit has an answer

Four unit types counter one another in a cycle, so the right army beats a bigger one. Units that survive gain experience, and veterans outlast fresh recruits.

Heroes who bend the rules

Recruit from eight heroes, each with a mix of active and passive abilities. Assassinate a rival hero inside their Keep, silence enemy heroes for a turn, or summon cavalry exactly where it's needed, while passives quietly strengthen every soldier you field or keep the farms and mines of the lands you conquer.

A campaign and a Book of Tales

Seven story chapters, beginning with a guided introduction, each told through illustrated, voiced cutscenes. While the campaign tells one continuous story of the continent of Avareon, the Book of Tales gathers other moments from its history as standalone challenges: hold a collapsing empire together while rebels take your provinces, or fight a war you can barely afford. It will keep growing, with new tales added over time.

Your war, your rules

  • Skirmish against AI at three difficulty levels, or play with 2 to 4 people in hotseat or online, with teams, joining friends straight through Steam

  • Play classic sequential turns, or simultaneous turns where everyone plans in secret and moves at once

  • Set up every game your way: two maps, random or hand-picked starting positions, three victory conditions, starting gold, taxation, neutral armies, shuffled territory bonuses and gold transfers between allies

  • Earn achievements that unlock titles and profile icons, and raise your player level as you play every mode

  • Watch replays of your games

About the open beta

War of Avareon will be a paid game at full release. Until then, the open beta is free to play: click Request Access on this page to join. Closed testers have already shaped it: their feedback led to clearer error messages, battle reports and many balance fixes. Everything listed above is playable now. Multiplayer, with joining straight through Steam, is the newest part of the game, so it’s where your reports help most. Expect rough edges and balance changes along the way. Progress made in the beta (achievements, titles, icons and player level) doesn’t carry over to the full release. Your feedback decides what gets fixed and built next.
