What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’re using Early Access because Carnival Horror is the kind of game that gets better with real player feedback. The core experience is already there, but horror, tension, and replayability are hard to fully judge in a vacuum. We want to see how players actually move through the haunted house, what feels scary, what feels repetitive, and where the risk/reward loop becomes the most fun.
Early Access gives us the chance to build that version of the game together with the community instead of waiting until everything is locked in.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current plan is for Carnival Horror to stay in Early Access for around 12 to 18 months.
That may change depending on how development goes and what kind of feedback we get, but the goal is to take the time needed to grow the game properly rather than rush it out too early.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to be a bigger, deeper, and more polished version of the game.
During Early Access, we want to expand Carnival Horror with:
More rooms and areas to explore
More enemy types and behaviors
More items, tools, and survival options
More events and run variety
More progression and balancing
More story, lore, and environmental detail
More polish, optimization, and quality-of-life improvements
The Early Access version is focused on getting the core loop right first. The full version should feel much more complete, varied, and refined.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already includes the core idea of Carnival Horror.
You can enter through the giant clown entrance, explore changing rooms, search for supplies, hide from threats, collect tickets, and decide whether to escape or push deeper for more rewards. The main gameplay loop is already playable and working, but the game still needs more content, more variety, and more polish to reach its full vision.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The plan is to launch at a lower price during Early Access and gradually raise the price as more major content and improvements are added.
That way, early players get in at the best price and help shape the game while it grows.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the community to be a real part of the development process during Early Access.
We’ll be listening through:
Steam discussions
Discord
Reviews and bug reports
Dev updates and patch notes
Community feedback on balance, replayability, and what feels fun or scary
A big part of Early Access for us is figuring out what players respond to most — what scares them, what keeps runs interesting, and what makes them want to go one room deeper when they probably shouldn’t.”

About This Game

The Clownhouse is a survival horror game with roguelite progression set inside a cursed, ever-changing mansion once owned by the wealthy family behind a once-famous carnival. Lured by rumors of hidden riches, valuable objects, and long-buried secrets, you break in hoping for a big score — but something is still waiting inside.

There are no weapons here. To survive, you’ll need to explore carefully, scavenge what you can, stay quiet, and hide when the clown gets close.

Every run is a gamble. Search the mansion for tickets and supplies, learn its shifting layout, and decide when to leave. Escape early and secure your rewards, or push deeper for a bigger haul and risk losing everything.

Key Features

  • Survival horror without combat — no weapons, no easy way out, just stealth, tension, and survival.

  • Procedurally generated mansion layout — each run sends you into a new layout with different routes, risks, and opportunities.

  • Risk-reward extraction loop — collect tickets and valuables, then choose when to escape before it’s too late.

  • Roguelite progression — use what you bring back to improve your chances on the next run.

  • A cursed mansion with carnival roots — uncover the mystery of the missing family and the clown behind it.

  • Replayable runs — each descent is a new chance to push further, learn more, and lose more.

Early Access Note

The Clownhouse is in active development. Early Access gives you a chance to experience the core survival horror loop now while we continue expanding the mansion, refining progression, improving balance, and adding more content over time. Your feedback will help shape the final game.
