What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“NGC-404 is built around interconnected systems: economy, logistics, combat, faction behavior, colony development, exploration, and multiplayer. The core foundations are already playable, but these systems need real player feedback to be properly balanced and refined.

Early Access allows development to continue transparently while players help shape combat pacing, economy balance, UI clarity, AI behavior, multiplayer stability, and long-term progression.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“NGC-404 is expected to remain in Early Access for at least one year.

The exact duration will depend on the pace of system expansion, balancing, multiplayer testing, performance improvements, and overall content growth. Since the game is based on a living simulation, sufficient time is needed to refine large-sector performance, AI behavior, economy balance, and long-term campaign progression”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to expand and refine the Early Access foundation with more content, deeper progression, improved AI behavior, and better long-term campaign structure.

  • Smarter faction AI
  • Progression systems for captains and governors
  • Expanded diplomacy
  • More weapons and ship equipment
  • Deeper colony development and progression mechanics
  • More dynamic events and sector-wide situations
  • Clearer UI and quality-of-life improvements
  • Optimization for larger sectors and higher ship counts
  • Further multiplayer stability, synchronization, and refinement

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version focuses on the core sandbox campaign and the main simulation systems that define NGC-404.

  • Procedurally generated sandbox campaign with custom seed support
  • Supply-and-demand economy simulation
  • Planet colonization and colony development
  • Resource production and interplanetary trade
  • Real-time 2D space combat
  • Ship loadout customization
  • Fuel and supply consumption affecting fleet operations
  • Sensor and detection systems influencing visibility
  • Host-client multiplayer support
  • Multiple players controlling separate factions
  • Hot join support for ongoing campaigns

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of NGC-404 is expected to increase over the course of Early Access as new systems, content, polish, and refinements are added.

Players who purchase the game during Early Access will receive future updates at no additional cost. The initial Early Access price is intended to reflect the current scope of features and content, while later price adjustments will reflect the growth of the game as it moves closer to full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly influence balance changes, quality-of-life improvements, UI clarity, combat pacing, economy tuning, AI behavior, multiplayer stability, and long-term progression.

Because NGC-404 is built around interconnected systems, real player behavior is essential for understanding how the economy, logistics, combat, and faction systems perform over longer campaigns.”

About This Game

✅ NGC-404 is for you if you:

  • Enjoy space strategy games with economy, fleets, colonies, and faction conflict

  • Like games where logistics, fuel and supplies matter

  • Want real-time 2D space battles with ship fitting and weapon control

  • Enjoy sandbox campaigns

  • Like managing a small fleet instead of controlling hundreds of units directly

  • Want to explore unknown systems, survey planets, and recover rare artifacts

  • Are interested in Early Access games that grow through player feedback

❌ NGC-404 may NOT be for you if you:

  • Expect a finished full-release game with all planned content already complete

  • Want a fast arcade space shooter focused only on direct action

  • Prefer fully scripted story campaigns over sandbox systems

  • Dislike economy, logistics, fuel, supplies, or resource management

  • Expect massive fleets with hundreds of directly controlled ships

  • Need highly polished UI and final balance from day one of Early Access

  • Are looking for a game without long-term strategic planning

NGC-404

A living 2D space strategy/RPG game about survival, trade, war, and building power in a sector.

The sector has been cut off from its home world.

Trade routes have collapsed. Colonies are running out of supplies. Factions compete for fuel, food, weapons, territory, and influence. In the middle of this crisis, you command a small fleet and try to turn it into something that can survive.

In NGC-404, you lead a faction in a simulated galaxy where economy, logistics, exploration, and combat are connected. Build colonies, fit ships, manage captains, trade resources, raid enemies, defend supply lines and fight real-time 2D battles where positioning and preparation matter as much as firepower.

Start small. Build influence. Shape the sector.

You begin with limited ships, limited resources and a dangerous sector around you. Every system can become an opportunity, a threat or a battlefield.

  • Command a small amount of ships directly

  • Explore star systems and unknown signals

  • Survey planets and decide where to expand

  • Build and develop colonies

  • Trade, raid, defend or conquer depending on your strategy

A living sector economy

The galaxy is not just a background map. Planets produce resources, colonies consume goods, shortages create pressure and trade routes determine which worlds survive and which begin to collapse.

  • Planets produce and consume resources over time

  • Supply and demand dynamically affect prices

  • Shortages can destabilize local and global markets

  • Surpluses can crash prices and create new opportunities

A powerful fleet is useless if it cannot be supplied. Fuel, supplies, production and trade access all matter when planning your next move.

Fit ships for your strategy

Your ships are not just health bars with guns. Their equipment, weapon groups, captains, hull quality and logistical limits affect how they perform in battle and how far they can operate from friendly territory.

  • Install weapons, systems, and ship components

  • Configure weapon groups and firing behavior

  • Hire characters and assign them as ship captains

  • Upgrade ships with better components and hull quality

  • Prepare different loadouts for different roles

Tactical 2D space battles

Combat in NGC-404 is real-time and logistics-driven. Ships use energy weapons, kinetic cannons, missiles, and point-defense systems. Positioning, firing arcs, range, fuel, supply and weapon control all affect the outcome of a fight.

  • Fight real-time 2D space battles

  • Use kinetic cannons, energy weapons, missiles, and point-defense

  • Intercept incoming projectiles with dedicated defensive weapons

  • Manage power, weapon groups, and firing control

  • Plan around fuel, supplies, damage, and recovery time

Battles are not isolated events. A victory can leave your fleet damaged, low on supplies, or unable to continue without support.

Explore the uncharted sector

The sector is only partially charted. Beyond established space, you can discover new systems, resource-rich planets, abandoned infrastructure, hidden signals and rare artifacts that can shift the balance of power.

  • Explore procedurally generated star systems

  • Survey planets for colonization potential

  • Discover derelict stations and abandoned infrastructure

  • Investigate hidden signals and unknown contacts

  • Recover artifacts that provide strategic advantages

Sensors, detection, and hidden threats

You do not always know what is out there. NGC-404 uses a dynamic sensor and detection system that determines what your ships can see, what remains unidentified and when hostile forces are finally revealed.

  • Detection ranges depend on ship capabilities

  • Unknown contacts can appear before they are identified

  • Hostile forces may remain hidden outside sensor coverage

  • Scouting and positioning can decide whether you control the engagement

Procedural sectors with shareable seeds

NGC-404 uses procedural generation with customizable seeds, allowing you to create a unique sector layout every time or share a specific sector with other players.

  • Randomized star systems and planetary distribution

  • Dynamic faction starting positions

  • Variable resource density and economic balance

  • Different exploration opportunities in every campaign

Solo or multiplayer sector campaigns

Play alone or shape the sector together. NGC-404 supports multiplayer, allowing players to control separate factions within the same simulated galaxy.

  • Control separate factions in one sector

  • Compete economically or form alliances

  • Wage wars over colonies, systems, and trade routes

  • Join ongoing campaigns with hot join support

Whether you cooperate or compete, the sector continues to evolve around the choices made by you and other players.
