It is 1958. The Outer Islands have been closed to the world for twenty years.

Their residents are gone. Some left. Some disappeared. Some were never properly accounted for.

You are Detective Anne Shepherd, sent to investigate why the signal tower on Pandora’s Rock has suddenly begun transmitting again after two decades of silence. The islands were sealed by the Ministry of Defence. The Malin family’s work was buried. The hospital on Asylum Rock was abandoned. No one is supposed to be there.

But something has woken up.

Explore a strange, interconnected island chain of automated machinery, sealed industrial sites, repurposed ancient buildings, abandoned hospitals, and impossible spaces that do not always obey the rules of architecture or reality.

Search for evidence. Read the environment. Follow clues. Solve mechanical systems. Use deduction to understand what happened here — and how to move deeper into places that were never meant to be reopened.

The islands are beautiful, but they are not safe.

Ancient automated systems are slowly coming back to life. Doors, lifts, conveyors, hospital machinery, transport devices, and industrial systems may still be following instructions given decades ago. Some can be reasoned with. Some can be avoided. Some can be turned to your advantage. Others will simply kill you.

Malin’s strange mechanical creatures still move through the islands, carrying out duties no sane person would now recognise. But they are not the only things here. Beneath the machinery, beneath the hospital walls, and beneath the islands themselves, something older is waiting — something that was here long before Malin, long before the Ministry, and perhaps long before people came to the Outer Islands at all.
