Why Early Access?

“SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD is primarily a multiplayer racing game with local (split screen) and online play (coming soon). Early Access is especially important for games with a strong multiplayer component, to ensure a robust online experience, but also to balance and tweak gameplay. The only way to achieve this is by getting feedback from lots of players.

Single player aspects will also be tweaked and developed with feedback from the community. In particular, the career mode, which takes the player from beginner through to complete mastery will benefit hugely from player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're aiming for a 2016 release for SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD, but it won't be released until we're completely happy with it. The release date will be locked down as we go through Early Access and start to learn more about what needs to be done to complete the game.”

“Those who buy the game during Early Access will be buying at a lower discounted price point than the full release, to give our thanks to those who support the game early on and help us with their feedback and with spreading the word.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The backbone of community involvement will be the game's forum. Every post will be read by the developer and some, where appropriate, commented upon by the developer. Whilst this will be a good way to gauge community response to aspects of the game, we will also run polls whenever that makes sense to get consensus on specific features.

For the multiplayer, we will organise weekly coordinated play sessions, to make sure there are enough people online at the same time to properly test the multiplayer systems. The community will be free to play online whenever they want, but these coordinated sessions will hopefully be useful to make sure there are enough players online at the same time whilst the user base is still growing.

There will be a bi-weekly cycle for version releases. As much as possible, these releases will be done on the same day so that players know when to expect new features. The release will be accompanied by a project update showing what's new in this version, as well as what is coming soon.”

The Volumetric Lighting Update is live! (v0.26.0)



More light

This update brings a big upgrade to the lighting model used in SUPER IMPOSSIBLE ROAD. The introduction of a volumetric lighting system brings more depth and nuance to the scene, setting the mood for each of the game’s locations.

The underlying game engine, Unity, has been upgraded from v5.6.4 to 2018.2, bringing with it improved CPU and graphics performance and physics bugs fixes. Please keep an eye out for the bug where the track collision stops the vessel or sends it straight into the air - this should hopefully be fixed.

The other major change for this update is a redesign of the loading screen. The tips shown on the loading screen now cycle through 40+ messages designed to help you become a better player. If you have any tips you would like to see presented here, please get in touch on the Discord or the Steam discussion board, I’d love to hear your suggestions.

The Career Mode Preview update is here! (v0.25.0)



Happy New Year all!

I'm happy to announce that this update includes a preview of the much anticipated Career mode, the single-player mode that will act as both tutorial and a series of challenges for players.

Upon entering Career mode, you will see a map. Each icon represents a challenge, and as you complete each challenge, new challenges are unlocked. There are sometimes multiple challenges you may choose to progress, so choose another one if you get stuck.

You can earn up to three stars on each challenge, but only one star is required to move past the challenge.

I’m really excited to see what you think of Career Mode, and hope to integrate the feedback into the final version, so if you have comments to add, please drop by the Discord and leave a note in the #career channel.
