About This Game

The Remake to Tex Murphy - Under a Killing Moon is an upcoming, high-fidelity modernization of the 1994 cyberpunk Noir adventure classic, spearheaded by indie developer Yuval Dorfman. It re-imagines the original point-and-click FMV game with advanced 3D, modern lighting, upscaled full-motion video and enhanced investigation systems.

Tex Murphy, a private investigator, has hit rock bottom. Recently divorced from his wife Sylvia, out of work, low on cash and living in a run-down part of Old San Francisco , Tex realizes that he has to get his act together so he sets out to hunt for work. ​

The game takes place in post-World War III San Francisco in December 2042. After the devastating events of the nuclear war, many major cities have been rebuilt (as is the case with New San Francisco), though certain areas still remain as they were before the war (as in Old San Francisco). The war also left another mark on the world: the formation of two classes of citizens. Specifically, some people have developed a natural resistance against radioactivity, and thus are normal or "Norms" – everybody else is a Mutant in some form.

• Cutting-Edge UE5 3D: Chandler Avenue is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, faithful down to wall posters, signage, alley geometry, and the original noir staging.

• Walk Where FMV Once Stopped: Step inside Rook's Pawnshop. Pull up a stool at Louie's Brew & Stew. Locations once locked behind FMV are now fully explorable 3D environments.

• One Connected Chandler Avenue: The remake turns Chandler Avenue into one interconnected space with no loading screens interrupting the investigation.

• Modern Controls and UI: WASD movement, mouse look, and a transformed interface make the game readable in 2026 while preserving the visual language of Under a Killing Moon. Gamepad will also be supported.

• HD and 2K FMV Reconstruction: Full-motion video is being reconstructed from digitized 1994 performance tapes and upscaled from 480i toward full HD and 2K presentation.

• Weather, Sound, and Atmosphere: Rain, lightning, fog, dynamic skies, glass droplets, remastered music, and upgraded ambient sound turn the city into a mood machine.

• New Content and VO: New minigames, a flashlight, new pickups, reshoots for lost FMV, and new voice lines expand areas that were never playable before.
