What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bunker Rats is built by a single developer, and Early Access lets the game grow with the people playing it. Feedback from players shapes balance, complexes, equipment and the systems that tie them together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 12 to 18 months, depending on feedback and what the game needs.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More complexes (each raising the level cap by five, to 30), new equipment and materials, deeper crafting and progression, and ongoing work on balance, networking and performance. Bunker Rats is free to play now and will stay free at full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Three complexes are playable (Supply Bunker, Maintenance Tunnels and Industrial Works), with Bunker Authority recovery crews in each, so raids are worth running solo or with others. Expect unfinished balance, bugs and occasional networking issues. If a major change requires it, progression may be reset, and that will be announced in advance.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. Bunker Rats is free to play, and I plan for it to remain free to play during Early Access and after its full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to communicate with players through Steam Discussions, announcements, and patch notes throughout Early Access. Players will be encouraged to report bugs, networking and performance problems, balance concerns, confusing mechanics, and feedback about maps, combat, progression, and the economy.
I will pay close attention to recurring feedback and use it alongside testing results to help prioritize updates. Not every suggestion will fit the game, but I want community experiences to play an important role in deciding what needs improvement and where my development time is best spent.”

About This Game

Recovery technicians wanted

Beneath the surface, the Bunker Authority has sealed off its old complexes and the materials left inside them. You are a registered recovery technician: a rat in a hazmat suit, sent down with whatever tools you can carry to bring those materials back.

You are not the only one sent.

Deploy, loot, get out

Prepare in the shared home bunker, then deploy solo or in a squad of up to four into a complex shared by up to 12 players. Search containers, fill your bag, complete your contract, and reach a blast door before time runs out. Everything you carry is at risk until you extract.

Never an empty raid

The Authority sends its own recovery crews into every complex, alone or in pairs, in rival outfits. They sneak, listen for footsteps, decide for themselves whether a fight is worth it, and turn on rival crews too. Play solo against them, or use them as cover and distraction when other players are near. Deeper complexes field better equipped, more aggressive crews.

Melee only

No guns. Crowbars, axes, machetes, sledgehammers and worse, with light combos, charged heavies, guarding, parries, feints, shoves and dodge rolls. Every fight is close, loud and personal.

The bunker fights back

Toxic gas, coolant steam and electrical faults spread as a raid goes on, and the air grows hotter. Suit upgrades help. Staying too long does not.

Lose it, or bring it home

Go down and any rat with a syringe can revive you, rival or not. Die for good and your gear stays behind for someone else to take. Make it out and your salvage feeds crafting, weapon upgrades and mods, suit upgrades and progression.
