What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe that the best games are built alongside their community. Early Access allows us to invite players into the development process while the game is still flexible enough to evolve.

Our world is designed to be vast and interactive. Early Access gives us the opportunity to see how players interact with the environment and sandbox mechanics, allowing us to fix unexpected behaviors and add content that supports your playstyles.””

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate the Early Access period will last between 1.5 to 2 years. However, the exact timeline depends on several factors:

- The volume and nature of community feedback.
- The scope of necessary improvements to game mechanics.
- The amount of additional content implemented based on player requests.
- Technical stability and optimization.

We adhere to the principle "it's done when it's done." We will not release the final version until the game meets our quality standards and community expectations. Throughout this process, we commit to transparent communication and regular updates.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access is an opportunity to receive valuable feedback and refine the game together with the community. We plan to add a number of improvements and new features for the final version, including:

- More polished game mechanics, refined based on player feedback and suggestions.
- An expanded set of locations, with plans for new unique areas specific to the full release.
- Completion of the storyline.
- Improved balance regarding difficulty and character progression.
- Optimized performance and fixes for technical flaws.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the core gameplay mechanics are largely established. Our primary focus has now shifted toward level design and populating the world with content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we plan to increase the price upon the full release. This reflects the addition of new content, features, and the increased value of the final product.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community interaction is the cornerstone of our development strategy. We will communicate with our players primarily through the Steam Forums and our social media channels (links to which can be found on our website).

The engagement process will begin with the release of the public demo, where player reviews and wishes will directly influence the state of the game at Early Access launch. Afterward, we will continue an iterative process, polishing and shaping the game based on your feedback until the final release.”

About This Game

Nowhere Highway is an atmospheric single-player Survival FPS set one year after a global catastrophe. An underground energy pulse of incredible power scorched nearly the entire surface of the planet. Only isolated patches of land were spared, and for unknown reasons, all of them are located along an old mountain highway that once connected small towns far from major cities. You will embark on a dangerous journey, exploring the post-apocalyptic world on foot and by car, discovering locations that still hold the remnants of a lost civilization.

Interaction with the World

Every action in the game has a cost, every decision has consequences, and a single problem may have multiple solutions. You choose your own survival strategy and character development path, while a random event system makes each playthrough unique, adding an element of unpredictability. You don't just exist in this world; you constantly interact with it, and it reacts to you.

True Freedom of Exploration

One of the core rules of the game is simple: if you see a door, you can go through it. From lonely roadside diners to apartment buildings in abandoned ghost towns, every structure is open for exploration. Items lie exactly where their owners left them on their last ordinary day. Every interior tells a silent story of the people who once lived there. There is no meaningless, randomly scattered loot. The world is logical and believable, meaning an attentive explorer will always be rewarded.

Character Development

Adaptability is the key to survival. The world changed after the catastrophe, and to survive, you will have to change too. The game offers a diverse character development system that allows you to grow to suit your chosen playstyle. There are no magical skill trees. Instead, you must find books to gain knowledge, use exercise equipment in abandoned homes, and hone specific skills to unlock new interactions with the environment.

Hardcore Survival

The game won't hold your hand: there are no navigation markers, quest indicators, or pop-up hints. Your main tools are observation and the ability to plan ahead. You'll need to explore this world on your own, learn its rules, and face the consequences of your decisions.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains scenes of violence, blood, gore, as well as alcohol consumption and smoking. Player discretion is advised.
