Why Early Access?

“As a development team of two, Blackwake is our first game that originated as a small hobby project in mid 2013. After a long journey the game received funding via Kickstarter and went into Early Access in February 2017. We believe through iteration and feedback we can make Blackwake the best it can be. Early access will allow us to improve the game with testing new features, optimization and gameplay.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to feel like a complete experience by February 2018. We will continue to update the game after full release. (UPDATE: Around the middle of 2017 we began to plan an overhaul to the game and changed course, you can read more about this here: http://steamcommunity.com/games/Blackwake/announcements/detail/1667893770970601591)

Our current plan is to release at patch 4.0, but it is unknown at this time when that may be. We estimate late summer 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our wishlist for full release:

  • Interesting and varied game modes
  • More cosmetic items
  • New weapons
  • New ship types
  • More voice acting
  • Improved performance
  • Improved stability

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As of patch 3.0 the game has been overhauled, we would strongly suggest seeing the 3.0 launch trailer. The overall game-play loop is there and near solid as we continue to refine. Once the core gamemode introduced with 3.0 is balanced and stable we will begin adding both new and old modes back to the game (the gamemode system was rewritten with 3.0 making the old modes incompatible). Along with more ships and many more outfits and hats to unlock through the game. There will be no microtransactions, we are gamers too and hate it.

The game as a whole has yet to go through extensive polishing, but any gamebreaking bug takes immediate priority.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may keep the price the same or raise it slightly as the game will be a more complete experience.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We actively look at and implement feedback as we have done since our Kickstarter testing. Reddit and Discord have helped tremendously in our alpha testing process and we will continue to work with them.”

- Fixed issue where ship labels may blink the old ship name when building a new ship
- Made adjustment to chat box that may have caused text to cut off
- Supply crates have had their LOD extended so players hiding behind them aren't visible
- Captain can no longer slide off the wheel
- Enemy nose can no longer push captains off the wheel
- Fixed inverted glare in spyglass
- CTB map adjusted to allow more competitive interceptions. Base islands are closer together while chest islands are further apart from each other.
- CTB chest can now be captured from sea (not final)
- Ticket scaling for the NEXT round can be toggled by an admin/mod using /ticketscale
