What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I did Early Access on my last game and it was really helpful for feedback. It also lit a fire under me to complete the project. This time around, the project is much more put together so I'm hoping to gather some feedback to smooth out any wrinkles before launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Ogre Dungeon is scheduled to release in June of this year 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There will certainly be changes and/or additions to things like classes, skills, equipment, etc. Some artwork and UI design might be different by release. New maps or challenges may be added. The transition from Early Access to full release should feel like a major update or expansion.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is fully functional. The game can be played from beginning to end. Some side content features are inactive but they are scheduled to be rolled out in updates throughout the Early Access process.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not planning on changing the price when we leave Early Access but after release we may gradually raise the price as new content and features are shipped.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback and community engagement is the heart of this Early Access. I am hoping to utilize the Steam Community Forums for feedback, bug reports, and player suggestions. As a solo indie developer, player feedback can be incredibly impactful on development.”

About This Game

Ogre Dungeon is a retro 2D Rogue-like for PC & Android designed to be simple, classic, and straight-forward for pick-up-and-play.

Choose your character and brave the dangers of dark and forgotten places in search of the ultimate treasure. Level up and increase your power as you descend each level of the increasingly hostile dungeon, then escape alive to claim your fortune and earn your character's name. The consequences of failure are irredeemable.

Stay alive. Your adventure only ends with victory or defeat. All saved progress is wiped upon character death. It isn't all doom an gloom, though. Your next character will stand to inherit your previous character's gold.

When you beat the game, your behavior during the run is analyzed, and your character shall earn their name--etched into the high scores. As development continues, these scores will eventually be hosted online for all to see, so adventurers may boast of their character's deeds!
(but the game itself is single player, no internet connection required)

Currently, dungeon floors use an eclectic mix of hand crafting, semi-randomization, and procedural generation to help create unique experiences for each new game. However, this game is designed to be linear and is more focused towards pick-up-and-play, start to finish, rather than sandbox game play. This won't be a game you play forever. It is designed to be an experience that begins and ends, for the player's enjoyment, and then frees the player to move on. In this sense, both the game play and style are very retro. Almost arcade-like.
