What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I need to know the community's opinion about the game before adding improvements and continuing to invest time in development. Early Access allows me to gather feedback and better understand what players value most, which will guide the future direction of the project.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game is expected to remain in Early Access for some time, although the exact duration is difficult to determine at the moment. Development progress will largely depend on community support and feedback. As a solo developer, the scope and pace of updates may evolve over time. In any case, I currently estimate that development of the base game will take around 24 months before full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In contrast to the Early Access version, the planned full release is intended to feature around 100 large and immersive levels, along with dozens of entities, multiple player upgrades, base expansion systems, and a wide variety of new items and gameplay improvements designed to enhance the overall player experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version currently includes all the main features mentioned in the "About This Game" section.

The game is fully playable from start to finish with the available content, although some elements are subject to tweaking, improvements, and optimization based on community feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will increase with each major update as new content and features are added. This is intended to reward players who support the game during its early development stage and join the project early through Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community plays a crucial role in development during Early Access.
Community feedback will be key to refining mechanics, balancing difficulty, improving the user experience, and prioritizing new features or content.

I want players to be an active part of the process by sharing ideas, reporting bugs, and helping shape the future of the game.”

About This Game

M.E.G Operative Experience

You play as a field operative working for M.E.G. (Major Explorer Group). Your mission is to explore the Backrooms from a central base of operations. This base can be expanded and improved over time, unlocking upgrades, new systems, and purchasable equipment that enhance your survival and exploration capabilities.

Cooperative Exploration (Up to 4 Players)

You can explore the Backrooms alone or in a team of up to 4 players. Communication is supported through proximity voice chat, making coordination natural, but also risky when separated or in hostile areas.

Based on the Backrooms Wiki

The game is heavily inspired by established Backrooms wiki lore. Many of the entities, levels, and concepts are adapted or reinterpreted from existing documented material, maintaining consistency with the broader Backrooms universe while adding interactive gameplay systems.

Incoming Large-Scale Levels

New massive and highly detailed levels are planned to be added. Each one will expand the scope of exploration, introducing new environments, mechanics, and threats to survive.

Handcrafted but Unstable Maps

The environments are hand-designed to ensure coherent and intentional level structure, but the world itself is not static. Layouts, encounters, and conditions can shift over time, making each run unpredictable even in familiar areas. Exploration is never fully safe or fully repeatable.

Immersive VHS Presentation

The game focuses on immersion through atmosphere and presentation. A realistic VHS-style camera system is included as an optional feature, enhancing tension and realism while exploring the unknown.

Liminality – Pure Exploration Mode

Liminality is an alternative mode focused entirely on exploration. It removes player stats, entities, and multiplayer interaction, offering a solitary experience where you navigate the levels without threats, objectives, or external influence, emphasizing atmosphere and environmental immersion.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains horror themes, psychological tension, disturbing environments, depictions of non-realistic violence, and frightening entities. Some scenes may include unsettling imagery, darkness, isolation, and themes that could be disturbing to sensitive players.
