Smoke and Steel is a turn-based wargame blending tactical battles with grand strategy set during the early 18th century, an age of disciplined musket lines, thundering cavalry charges and battlefields swallowed by cannon smoke.

Command the armies of Europe in tactical battles where formation, positioning and morale decide the outcome, then lead your nation through campaigns of war, diplomacy, trade and technological change.

Lead the Carolean armies of Sweden through the Great Northern War, command historical battles across Europe, or write an entirely new history.

Every volley counts. Every step matters.

TACTICAL BATTLES

Fight historical engagements from the Battle of Almansa to the Battle of Poltava, create your own skirmishes, or take command in multiplayer battles.

Victory is not simply a matter of destroying the enemy.

Maintain your battle line. Protect your flanks. Concentrate fire where it matters. Keep wavering troops under control and exploit weaknesses before the enemy can recover.

Morale is as important as manpower. Units under sustained fire, attacked from the flank or seeing nearby allies rout can lose their nerve and withdraw from the fight. A single collapse at the wrong moment can spread through an army and turn an orderly battle line into a rout.

Employ historically inspired unit types including Line Infantry, Grenadiers, Dragoons, Cuirassiers, Hussars and Field Artillery, each with a distinct role on the battlefield.

Manage trade and diplomacy, secure valuable strategic resources, develop new technologies, raise armies and decide where and when to commit them.

The decisions made on the campaign map determine the armies that meet on the battlefield.
