Project Substrata is a first-person building and automation game where you shape the terrain and construct your own base and production lines.

Find ore deposits, mine resources, and connect machines with conveyors. Follow the flow of materials, clear bottlenecks, add power, and work toward your next production goal. See your design decisions reflected in the way your factory runs.

Shape the terrain. Build your base.

Dig and level the terrain, then combine floors, walls, and stairs to create a home for your factory. Plan machine layouts and routes through your base as you build around the landscape.

Connect mining, processing, and assembly.

Link miners, smelters, fabricators, and assemblers with conveyors. Use curved routes, changes in elevation, splitters, and mergers to deliver resources where they are needed. Process materials and unlock new equipment and technologies to expand your production lines.

Power your factory. Understand how it runs.

Combine coal-fired generation with wind power that responds to wind strength and surrounding obstructions. Balance supply and consumption to keep production moving. Use machine status indicators and power statistics to find out why a line has stopped—and improve your design.

Explore a world of changing weather and light.

Search for ore deposits and find your next building site among rivers, lakes, and varied terrain. Explore and build as day turns to night and the weather changes.

Our long-term goal: planetary restoration

Our long-term goal is to build on this foundation of factory construction and automation with systems for restoring the environment of a ruined planet.

Planetary restoration is a future development goal, not a currently implemented feature. We will share details, timing, and whether any of these systems will be included at the start of Early Access as development progresses.

Development and Early Access

Project Substrata has moved from a primarily outsourced development approach to solo development led by its creator.

We are targeting an Early Access launch during 2027. This is a goal, not a confirmed release date. Work-in-progress visuals and features may change during development.

All in-game assets, textures, audio, story elements, and code are manually created and refined by the development team.

Within the game world, autonomous drones and facility AIs operate as part of the gameplay and narrative systems, not as real AI services.
The game runs entirely offline, with no external data transmission or use of online AI APIs.
