What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Etherwind is entering Early Access with its core gameplay systems already implemented in a functional baseline state. Early Access will focus on refining, balancing, and polishing those systems through real player feedback and behavior.

Because Etherwind places a strong emphasis on long-term progression, cooperative play, and interactions between multiple interconnected systems, meaningful balance and pacing decisions are difficult to make without a larger active player base. Community feedback will help guide adjustments to progression pacing, cooperative incentives, class and skill balance, rewards, and the overall gameplay experience.

Development during Early Access will also include expanding the game’s content and improving the presentation, usability, and polish of its existing features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Etherwind to remain in Early Access for an extended period while its existing gameplay systems are refined, balanced, and polished, and the game’s world and content are expanded. The exact duration will depend on player feedback, development progress, content production, and any adjustments made to the planned scope.

We plan to leave Early Access once the core progression experience is stable and well-balanced, the planned content scope is substantially complete, and the game has reached the level of polish and reliability expected for a full release. We currently anticipate this may take approximately one to two years after the initial Early Access launch, though this estimate may change as development continues.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to expand on the Early Access experience with additional regions, more quests and cooperative content, finely tuned progression and gameplay balance, and further improvements to polish, performance, and overall presentation.

Early Access will focus on refining the game’s core systems and expanding its content, while the full version aims to offer a broader, more polished, and more complete world built on those foundations.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version focuses on core gameplay systems, including PvE combat, character progression, rebirth mechanics, cooperative play, and a persistent shared world. Players can explore maps, complete quests, party with others, and progress their characters across multiple lives.

As with most Early Access titles, some features are still in development, content is incomplete, and balance and pacing will continue to evolve based on feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access, Etherwind will be completely free to play, with no purchase price and no subscription. We do not plan to change the price at any point during Early Access.

After Early Access ends, the game itself will remain free to play. At that time, we plan to introduce an optional subscription that unlocks new continents and content added after launch. The base game and starting regions will remain free.

There are no plans to introduce a purchase price for the base game. Any pricing changes would be limited to optional post-launch subscription content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is a core part of Etherwind’s development. Players are encouraged to share feedback, suggestions, and bug reports through in-game systems or the official Discord.

Feedback from the community helps guide balance changes, system adjustments, and future development priorities throughout Early Access.”

About This Game

Etherwind is a small-scale 3D side-scrolling MMORPG focused on cooperative play, flexible character building, and long-term progression across multiple lives.

Explore a persistent shared world of towns, wilderness regions, dungeons, and instanced challenges. Meet other players naturally while adventuring, trade with the community, form parties, and work together toward shared goals.

Gameplay & World

Etherwind is a PvE-focused MMORPG with no player-versus-player combat. Fight monsters, complete quests, take on jobs, explore dungeons, and participate in cooperative activities across interconnected maps.

Most content can be approached alone or with a party, but cooperation is meaningfully rewarded. Party members can share experience and objectives, earn improved activity rewards, and gain access to progression benefits designed around active participation rather than simply being present.

The world is persistent and shared, allowing players to regularly encounter others progressing alongside them, form temporary or long-term groups, and take part in an active in-game community.

Character Progression

Etherwind features a rebirth-based progression system built around repeated leveling journeys.

During each life, players choose a class, gain levels, learn and master skills, improve their stats, and acquire equipment. Upon reaching the rebirth point, they may begin a new life as another class while retaining permanent character growth earned across previous lives.

Skills do not automatically carry over after rebirth. However, Legacy Points earned through gameplay can be used to preserve selected skills, allowing characters to gradually combine abilities from different classes and develop increasingly specialized builds.

Classes define the starting direction of each life rather than permanently locking a character into one role. Over time, a character’s identity is shaped by stat allocation, equipment, class choices, and the skills preserved across rebirths.

This allows players to experiment with new playstyles, change roles, and build toward unique long-term combinations, without "re-rolling" a new character.

Development Status

Etherwind is currently a solo-developed project with an emphasis on enjoyable gameplay, meaningful cooperation, and community building rather than aggressive monetization.

The game is currently in active development, with Early Access planned. Its core gameplay systems are being implemented before Early Access, while balance, pacing, content, presentation, and polish will continue to evolve through development and player feedback.

Players interested in following development, providing feedback, or participating in future testing are encouraged to join the official Discord, where development updates and design discussions are shared regularly.
