What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Squid Hunt 1923 is a loot-driven FPS where tuning is everything – loot rarity curves, progression pacing, and boss difficulty only become real once players grind through them. Early Access gives us the data and feedback we need to balance these systems against actual play patterns instead of guessing. We're working in a two-person team and want the development to be transparent: players see what we're building, tell us what's working, and shape where the focus goes next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We aim to keep Squid Hunt 1923 in Early Access for approximately six months, with a planned Full Release in early 2027. This window may shift depending on feedback and what the game needs to be considered complete by us and our players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Full Release is planned to roughly double the content available in Early Access. We intend to expand from 5 to 10 bosses and from 25 to 50 levels, add a dedicated Endgame mode for long-term progression, and integrate voice acting for the in-game lore content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Squid Hunt 1923 is fully playable and stable in its current Early Access state. The build runs smoothly on all supported hardware, including Steam Deck, where it maintains 60+ FPS. All five interface languages (German, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese) are available from launch. Voice acting is not yet implemented and is planned for the Full Release.
The Early Access version includes 5 bosses, 25 levels, and the core loot and progression systems. These systems are functional and balanced for the current scope, but progression pacing and loot variety will be refined based on player data and feedback. Additional weapons, further bosses and levels, the Endgame mode, and the full lore integration are still in development and will be added throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Squid Hunt 1923 will be priced lower during Early Access to reflect its current scope and to reward players who join us early in development. We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.
Players who purchase the game during Early Access will keep access to the Full Release version at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is central to our development during Early Access. We gather feedback through several channels:

In-game feedback and bug reporting: Players can submit feedback and bug reports directly from within the game, routed through our in-game reporting system. This is our primary feedback channel.
Steam Community Hub: For public discussion, feature suggestions, and ongoing dialogue with the wider player base.
YouTube and social media: We engage with players in the comments and discussions around our content.
Discord: Available for players who prefer direct conversation with the team.

We plan to ship a major update approximately once per month during Early Access. Each update will be informed by the feedback collected since the previous release, with a focus on the systems where player input matters most: progression pacing, loot variety, and boss balance.”

About This Game

Death relieves you of fear. Not of duty.

You died? Excellent! Enlist and you belong to the S.H.P. – the Squid Hunt Program. We grant you a life after death. A purpose. Meaning. You step through a portal on our behalf to intercept the – fortunately – endless waves of squid heads.

The marrow to the state, the coffin to the enemy.

Enter the portal, eliminate the enemy, loot supply crates and pay. Return to your quarters successfully, open the crates and secure new weapons and bonuses. Upgrade your equipment at the workbench – so that on your next run you send even more enemies to the hereafter, even faster.

Those who stand with the S.H.P. shall never fall.

Earn experience, rise in rank, grow stronger. Your rank determines your weapon upgrades, your storage capacity and access to more dangerous portals. The more dangerous the portal, the better the supplies. You set the difficulty.

The heart is cold, the hand is steady, until the Program sees fit to release you.

Unlock special hunting portals and face boss enemies who desperately attempt to obstruct the Program. They promise cheerful bloodshed, glory – and above all, equipment. Conserving ammunition is strictly prohibited. The loss of limbs is to be compensated by increased combat readiness.
