Pale Incense; A Gothic story of love, immortality, guilt, and sacrifice.

Step into the story of Edmund, a vampire perfumer. Unable to accept the mortality of his human wife, Johanna, Edmund attempts to transform her into a vampire like himself. But Johanna’s body cannot endure the change, leaving her gravely ill.

Edmund must now sustain two different lives. By day, he crafts perfumes from scents extracted from humans and runs his shop. By night, he hunts through the city’s deadly streets to satisfy his own hunger and gather the resources that may keep Johanna alive.

Day: Run the Perfume Shop

• In your laboratory, create different scent types from traditional ingredients and essences extracted from human blood.

• Combine these scents to craft unique perfumes that you can sell to your customers.

• Fulfil your customers’ requests, sell your perfumes, and earn money to expand your shop.

• Upgrade your equipment, increase your production capacity, and store more materials.

• Daylight does not last forever. When night falls, customers retreat to their homes and the city streets call Edmund back to the hunt.

Vampire Lair: Save Johanna

• Beneath your shop lies a secret vampire lair where Edmund and his gravely ill wife, Johanna, hide.

• Collect Human Essence from the people you hunt at night and combine it with Vampire Stones found throughout the city to create Human Essence Stones.

• Use Human Essence Stones to prepare healing incense for Johanna and keep her alive.

• Johanna’s condition worsens with each passing day. Fail to provide the incense she needs, and death draws one step closer.

• Upgrade the vampire bed to reduce the hunger lost whenever you sleep.

• Convert Vampire Stones into Vampire Renown, unlock new vampire abilities, and assign the abilities you want to use at night.

• Use the money you earn to improve your lair and customize it to your own style.

Night: Go on the Hunt

• Roam a Gothic city filled with danger, prey, and hidden resources.

• Hunt the city’s residents and feed on their blood to survive.

• When your hunger is depleted, you begin to lose health. Choose your next victim carefully.

• Extract valuable scents from your victims’ blood and Human Essence from their bodies for Johanna’s treatment.

• Search hidden chests across the city’s districts to find rare Vampire Stones.

• Hide the bodies and leave no evidence behind. When a body is discovered, the city’s residents may panic.

• If too many people witness Edmund’s true nature, the district enters an alert state and the streets remain empty for a time.

• Use your equipped vampire abilities to hunt, hide, escape your enemies, and survive.

The City Hunts You Too

At night, Edmund is not the only hunter. Deadly enemies also roam the city, determined to destroy vampires like him.

• The Scrooge Brothers: Vampire hunters who track Edmund through the city’s districts, except for the Back Alley.

• The Mysterious Rooftop Archer: A deadly assassin who appears at elevated positions and tries to hunt Edmund from afar.

• The Back Alley Werewolf: An invulnerable creature far stronger than Edmund. When you see it, run instead of fighting.

• Night does not last forever. Reach the boat on the riverbank before dawn.

• If the first rays of sunlight catch you, Edmund begins to burn and death becomes inevitable.
