About This Game

Take command of a medieval army, master unit positioning, and defeat your enemies turn by turn. Choose a commander, each with a unique unit and ability, deploy caltrops (spikes) to block strategic points, and build the right units to counter the enemy while using the terrain to your advantage. Conquer all castles on the map to win the battle.

Features

  • Tactical, grid-based combat with an emphasis on positioning, line of sight, and terrain.

  • Caltrops: Infantry can place caltrops (spikes) on the ground. Defend your castles by blocking strategic points, or by inflicting damage when the enemy goes through them; enemies can't see caltrops without line of sight.

  • Distinct commanders: Every commander brings a signature unit, a passive bonus, and a powerful active ability that shapes your strategy.

  • Unit counterplay: Build the right units to counter the enemy with a rock-paper-scissors mechanic: swords, spears, and cavalry. Then there are ranged units; keep them safe because they can be easily defeated. Finally, siege units are large moving structures that help bring down castles. You still need infantry to capture castles; siege units just make it faster. Each unit type has both a light and a heavy version.

  • Weather: Each turn, the weather may shift from sunny to rain or even snow. This impacts movement cost, visibility, and defense of every tile. Since this is the Middle Ages, nobody knows what the weather will be next turn, so be cautious!

  • Capturing buildings: To capture a village, walk into it with an infantry unit and perform the capture action. Castles, on the other hand, are tougher to capture. First, reduce the castle's HP to 0; then an infantry unit can walk in and capture it. If a unit belonging to the castle's owner stands on the castle tile, the castle heals 1 HP per turn until the castle's HP is full again. Siege units deal the most damage to castles.

Level Editor

Build your own maps with the level editor. Create a unique and strategic terrain, place buildings, roads, and maybe even pre-deployed units. Then publish it to the Steam Workshop or just keep it for yourself. You can play the maps in both singleplayer against the computer or in local and online multiplayer.
