About This Game

Profaned is an Egyptian-themed old-school FPS in the vein of PowerSlave and Quake, built on the DarkPlaces engine. Produced by Rising Fire Games and developed by ex-3D Realms members (Wrath: Aeon of Ruin), Bloom Team / Rest in Pixels (Call of the Void).

Somewhere between the two Great Wars, our protagonist — a seasoned fighter pilot — is shot down during aerial combat over the deserts of ancient Egypt. Unfortunately, his plane crashes onto a forgotten temple, blocking the only way out.

With no choice but to venture into the depths of the temple, he soon discovers he isn't the first to arrive: the remains of enemy expeditions — soldiers, equipment, journals — lie scattered through its corridors, overrun by something that was never meant to be disturbed. Something magical. Something not of this world.

Fighting his way through crumbling temples, buried cities, mines and caverns, our protagonist uncovers the truth behind the hieroglyphs: the old gods of Egypt were never gods at all. Millennia ago, humanity served an alien race that arrived through strange pyramidal portals — and for reasons lost to time, abandoned our planet. Now those portals are opening again.

Why now? Has the bloodshed of our wars called them back? Have they simply been waiting for us to grow weak? Or have they seen how far we've come — and returned to make sure that, this time, we are the ones who serve?

  • Old-school FPS combat: fast movement, secrets and egyptian architecture, built the way the genre demands

  • Handcrafted levels through crumbling temples, buried cities, mines and caverns

  • A bestiary drawn from Egyptian myth twisted into something far older and far worse — mummies, harpies, a sphinx, and more

  • An arsenal spanning WWI/WWII-era firearms to weapons of a forgotten, alien technology

  • Powered by DarkPlaces: classic Quake-engine movement and feel, with modern rendering

  • Produced by Rising Fire Games (Hands of Necromancy) and developed by ex-3D Realms members (Wrath: Aeon of Ruin), Bloom Team / Rest in Pixels (Call of the Void)
