What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game will be in early access while I gather data and feedback from early access testers. Being a solo developer, making a first game of this scale is extremely difficult and time-consuming.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will likely see a full release in the year 2027.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will contain much more content to make the game more engaging and less repetitive. To be worthy of a full release, I aim for the game to comprise several task variations and at least three unique entities with their own distinct quirks and sounds; however, this is subject to change. I also plan to make the game as a whole smoother and more polished, with fewer bugs and glitches, especially in multiplayer. I also plan to enhance the interlude phase, adding more functionality and increasing its overall importance. In addition, I plan to enhance the gameplay with friends, adding various cooperative tasks and proximity voice chat to enhance the experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is a playable multiplayer backrooms/liminal esc. experience with three procedural levels and one entity. An interlude phase, an inventory system, and a level escape system are present. At each level, a new and unique map is generated, along with items, tasks, and an entity spawning in the level.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will likely see a 50% price increase upon full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“In the official game Discord, I take bug reports and various idea suggestions. Should any stand out or be voted upon by the community, I may add said feature.”

About This Game

WELCOME, TO:

ACATALEPSY

A brand new take on the liminal space experience.

Your team is tasked with exploring and diving as deeply as possible into liminal spaces. Complete various tasks and dive deeper through several levels. With a procedural level generation system, the map is different and unique every single time.

Acatalepsy shines the most in multiplayer with friends; a small group is suggested to fully enjoy all aspects of Acatalepsy.

Your main goal is to complete the required number of tasks, open the final doors, and escape.

Simple, right?

_________________

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

You and your team are not the only ones inside these liminal spaces. Alongside completing your tasks, you'll need to avoid various entities that lurk within the level. Coming face-to-face with a creature here will mean certain death.

_________________

A BRIEF SOLACE

Once you have met the task threshold and your team has successfully exited a level, you will be presented with an interlude phase. Here, you can purchase additional lives, as well as sell and purchase equipment. All deceased team members will come back, but at the cost of a life.

_________________

TIME IS A FACTOR

In each level, you have as much time as you need to complete the required number of tasks. However, once the required number of tasks has been completed, you have a minimal amount of time to locate the exit doors and escape; otherwise, insanity will take over.

_________________

EVERY NEXT LEVEL DEEP IS HARDER

After the completion of every level, whether or not everyone lived or died, a new modifier will be applied to the next level. The map may be darker overall, the entity faster, more tasks required to escape, or plenty else. You need to adapt to the changing factors in order to progress as deeply as possible.

Important Notice:

Proximity voice chat is not currently present within Acatalepsy due to specific limitations. As the development of Acatalepsy progresses, I will work to add proximity voice chat as soon as possible.

Due to concerns about cheating, multiplayer is currently only available via Steam Friend Invite.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Interlude screens between levels feature dead players with varying amounts of violence and disturbing imagery, with certain scenes depicting suicide/self-harm.
