What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As the development of Hand-me-downs enters it's final stages, community feedback becomes increasingly valuable.

We believe the game is ready to be enjoyed by those who don't mind some imperfections, and it's these players that can help us shape Hand-me-downs into something truly special!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the game to leave Early Access sometime during this summer, but early autumn is not out of the question either.

We have some content expansion ideas, and we haven't decided what will get implemented and what will get cut. This will become clearer once the community gets involved.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to have any placeholder art replaced, and for the game to get visually polished overall.

We plan to have more content in the full version (More decks, trinkets, opponents, etc.).

We plan to incorporate meta-progression.

We expect to go through many balance-related changes by the time the full version is released.

And, of course, we plan to eliminate any bugs encountered, and bring some QoL features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The "About This Game" section contains all the information about the current state of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we release major updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will primarily be listening to feedback provided through our Discord server, and the Steam Community page but we might introduce more ways to provide feedback in the future.

The Community will help us primarily with spotting bugs and providing feedback in terms of the game balance.
We are also happy to hear out the Community's suggestions regarding any aspect of the game!”

About This Game

Hand-me-downs is a roguelike deck builder where you play against your own old hands.

Your opponents don't have their own deck, so they borrow your cards!
After every face-off, you switch cards with your opponent, and you must face off against the very hand you just played the next time you encounter them.

Each opponent brings a unique twist to the table, so be careful which cards you let them have.

Whether it's the The Bouncer restricting which cards you can play, or The Painter changing the suits after the switch, your opponents will make sure to complicate your plans.

And remember: their cards are your cards.

Each suit has its own flavor, and each rank its unique character.

Throughout the game you'll get familiar with the no-nonsense Clubs, the fortunate Coins, the jolly Cups and the ruthless Swords.

Face cards and aces have powerful effects that can shut down your opponent, or score a ridiculous amount of points.

Acquire powerful trinkets to manipulate your deck and keep up with opponent scaling.

Whether by increasing your score, suppressing your opponents, or manipulating your deck, trinkets play a crucial role in keeping up with your opponents.

Use totally-not-cursed tickets to corrupt your cards and gain an edge over your opponents.

Why do your opponents let you use these obviously illegal cards against them?
Don't worry about it!
Holding the corrupted cards makes you feel funny?
Do not worry about it.

Unlock and beat all decks on all tables.

Each deck provides unique benefits and each table brings new challenges to the... table.

Achieve victory with all combinations to earn the prestige "Hander of Downs" title.

(Not a legally recognized title. Yet. Working on it.)

Sit back, relax, bob your head to the beat, and watch the beautiful chaos unfold!
